Default Crutchfield Opinions

After doing some reading here, I've gotten the impression folks do not think too highly of Crutchfield as a source of car A/V equipment. I'm curious on the specifics. Was it a bad experience? Are the prices not competitive? Shipping issues?

I'm looking to upgrade my stock Shaker 500 soon and have a particular head unit in mind. Crutchfield is a place I am considering making my purchase with.

I am in the USAF stationed in Germany. APO delivery preferred.

All constructive opinions welcomed!

Thanks in advance for your help! I've already learned a lot just from reading the posts here!

I've found that I can find stuff a whole lot cheaper at other places than I can there. A lot of there stuff they sell for retail. What headset you looking for?

I can usually get stuff from other sites for a lot cheaper. But,I don't have to ship overseas so I imagine that limits your options quite a bit.

Being overseas does limit my choices. Kind of a bummer.

I am considering the Kenwood DNX7100. I've read reviews about how great this unit is but how the user interface is not the least bit intuative. I think I can live with that. I'm a pretty technically-inclined guy. While I won't be able to use the HDor SAT radio over here, I'm preparing for the future whe I return to the states. I like the integrated Nav system (a highlight according to the reviews I read, http://review.zdnet.com/navigation/k...-32358834.html, http://reviews.cnet.com/car-gps-navi...-32358834.html) and the USB connection. I plan to purchase the Bluetooth hands-free unit along with it.

I like that Crutchfield includes some of the adapter cabling (although I'm sure I'm paying for it) as well as some literature that helps with installation for my car (again, I'm sure I'm paying for it). I also like their financing option (12 months same as cash).

I have found the unit cheaper at other places. I found that they either didn't deliver to APO, they didn't include the little extras (that I could find) or they didn't offer the finance option I mention above.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Crutchfield prices are pretty high. It is a good site to do some research though. I am in the Army and have found that the AAFES site is pretty good for car stereos. I have bought a few of them on line. www.AAFES.com you should be able to log on and order from there. Prices usually are alot cheaper and free shipping most of the time.
