anything over 10" for harder rock sounds like ***. you want to keep your performance, so you want to keep your light wieght. 2 8"s a small amp and a full set ofcomponents/coaxs will make you happy.

there really wont be a whole lot of weight difference between some 8's and 12's tho. thats all dependant on how big the magnets are and everything. theres 8's that weigh more than some 15's. box size the 8's will probably (probably...it all depends on the sub) be smaller, but in the end you may save 20 pounds of weight with the smaller subs...that equates to about 2 hp loss which isnt reallyanything to worry about.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the advice. So let me see if I have this all down. Don't get a Kenwood head unit becauseI might have something heavy and sharp thrown at me....looks like Eclipse it is. 12 inch subs are probably bigger than I need for my type of music (rock). So I should go with 2 8's or 1 10" sub(s). And I must make sure that my amp has more power than my subs (in watts?). How am I doing so far??

Ok, so if you guys had your pick between 8's or 10's which would you do, what brands do I need to focus on, and what amp do I need. Again, I think I understand all the input so far....smaller + better quality = much better sound....especially for music with less bass. Trunk space really doesn't matter to me, I could take it or leave it, and I'm not on much of a budget. Just want quality sound.

Oh and someone fill me in on the "big 3". I keep coming across it in my searches but I don't really understand what I'm reading. Thanks again guys.

BTW mwl1960....nice set up!! Looks great. Did you do that yourself?

well 2 8's or 2 10's, i cant bring myself to run 1 sub anymore unless its a BEEFY sub (like a 2000w rms sub). for your music i would definately suggest 8's.

no, you want your subs to handle more power than your amp can push out...then you dont have to worry about blowing your subs.

you gotta find subs first. something like these. make sure they are 2 ohm, i doubt youll find any 1 ohms for a non-outrageous price. the lower the ohms it can run at, the better the bass. once youve found a couple subs you want figure out how much RMS they can take in total, then find an amp that pushes (in my opinion) slightly under that (rms) @ 2 ohms. i.e. your subs can take 1200w rms @ 2 ohms, get an amp that runs 1000w rms @ 2 ohms. thats my suggestion, i know theres some ppl who say get a amp stronger than the subs so you can get the most from your subs, but you dont have to worry about too much juice if your amp cant push enuff power to reach the max on the subs.

Sorry took so long to reply back I have Eclispe AVN 5500. As far as door speakers you have an 8 in the door as well I would do a three way set up front. You can still use a single sub if not 2 10's should work just fine for you.

thanks, i've had my work done by 2 separate audio shops, the 2nd shop used for the trunk lid work. i'm not that talented to do work like this, so knowing my limitations i did the next best thing.. hire pros.
