Default Newbie set up help.

Hey there all. Well I have finally run out of performance mods on my 06 GT and I am ready to start messing around with the audio. I don't need anything excessive, But I wouldn't mind turning a few heads every once and a while. I would like to put in a nice navigation/DVD unit and some subs and an amp in the trunk. I really like the pre-painted, fiberglass boxes from TC.

I researched the stickies and tried to do several searches, but I still have some questions:
1) What type of head unit are most of you using
2) Do I need 2 subs or 1 and what size?? 10 or 12
3) And what brand and size of amp?
4) Anything else you might recommend that I might be overlooking (like I said I'm not a big audio buff).

Thanks for all your input in advance.

1. Eclispe, Alpine, Pioneer etc. I am using a Eclispe
2. You can use 1 sub. Currently using 1 Image Dynamics ID Max 12. Recommendations: Elemental Designs, Image Dynamics, Eclispe etc. Check this website www.woofersetc.com
3. Depends on your budget and what type of music you listen to. Currently using Memphis Belle 5 channel
4. I cant really think of anything right off of hand.
Hope that helps you

Thanks so much for you input. Would you guys say 1 sub is sufficient for quality sound or doI need 2. Budget really isn't a big issue and I listen mostly to rock/metal.....think Disturbed, Linkin Park.

Also, which Eclipse unit did you go with??

i am currently useing an Alpine CDA 9853 and love it, but if you're looking more for a Nav setup i've used an alpine IDA 310. They are amazing quality units with touch screen and great picture and sound.

Nav, I'd look at the Pioneer series , they are NV-1 or something like that, they're probably on NV-3 by now. I have a Pioneer 880PRS Premier head unit, JL Audio subs (2 10" 10w3v2 subs), Alpine 800w amp, gonna put an amp in to power the interior speakers at some point, but they're all Boston Acoustic SX-60s (replaced Mach 460 speakers).

Sounds great, even with the top down doing 70mph.

How do I decide what type of amp I need? Is it dependent on the number and amount of subs, or something diff all together? I have narrowed the search of the head unti down to Kenwood or Eclipse. Any other recommendations on subwoofer brand, quantity, and size please. Thanks guys

i love eclipse dekcs, ive owned severaldifferent onesand my eclipse deck was hands down better. get a kenwood deck and ill throw something at you...something heavy....maybe with sharp edges

1 or 2 subs is all dependant on you. how much trunk space you wanna kill, how much bass you need/want, etc... one sub will definately make your music sound better, but bass is addicting just like speed [sm=badbadbad.gif]. i had a 1200w amp powering my subs originally, i fried the amp. got a 2400w amp, now i wanna sell it and get a 2000w RMS/4000peak amp (my subscan handle 1100w RMS per sub)

you decide on what type of amp you need by how much power your sub or subs can handle. has nothing to do with how many subs you have. theres subs out there that can take 2000w RMS or more...thats on one sub...so obviously u wouldnt want a 1600w peak amp for that. plus you have to take into ohm ratings also.

hmmm...i have never heard good bass with linkin park or disturbed with my subs. rock/metal just doesnt seem to have any bassto me. the notes arent as low and they are brief hits. smaller subs seem better for rock to me.

my last car had my 2x 12's with 2400w running to em and i could barely tell they were hitting listening to rock.

+1 Smaller subs = better for Rock! FTW!

The 2 10" JLs in my trunk (even with the convertible down) hit hard & fast for good bass when I play songs by Linkin Park.
