Car Died today... Load problem?
Decided to drive the mustang to work today, had the stereoON but notreally that loud, and the heat onsince it was coldand she died in traffic.. great. WhenI turned the key I heard the starter crank but it wouldnt turnover.
Had to get it boosted and then it was all good from there.
Ive been having alot of electrical problems (in terms of the soundsystem draining the battery like crazy)
What I have so far:
Deck, 1 12"sub, 605watt monoblock, components (running off of deck) all through 4 gauge wire.
I recently upgraded my alternator (130 amp..brand new) and the battery to an Orbital Purple haze. I also recently did the 'big 3' upgrade using 4 gauge high quality wire.
So maybe Hiss, PReal or anybody has some suggestions on what I should do to improve the charging system so that the amp doesnt drain my battery as much.
Thanks a bunch guys!
ps. no cap suggestions lol
EDIT: forgot to add that the car is an 88lx.

i dont see that as too much load (i dont know full detail on mustangs or anything) but my last car had a 130w alt and i listened to my music LOUD (deck, amped speakers, and 2x 12's running on 2400w). didnt ever have a problem...and i didnt even have a cap in it for about a month. your car could draw more power from the alt just to keep running than my last car but i wouldnt think it'd be that much.
i know you said your alt is brand new, but you can i think take it to pep boys or autozone or one of those places and they will test your alt for you for free to make sure its charging properly. and also were you having this problem before the new battery?

Well i found out that the car did not die because of an overload however I am still havng problems with the sub draining the battery/ small light dimming when cranked.
MU71L4710N- I will get the alt/ battery tested tommorrow But I think they are both okay. Yes I was having this charging issue before the new alt/battery/big 3 upgrade. The big 3 helped alot but with the new alt/battery the amp is still drawing more than it should in my opinion.
ttocs- No I do not have underdrive pullies.
Is 4 gauge large enough for the power wire for a 605 watt mono? Would another alternator help (I have seen people rig 2 alts with a custom bracket).
Thanks again!

Are you making sure the stereo is not turning on unless the car is running? Put everything on switches.
i had 4guage on my 2400w and my 1200w amps, worked fine
my last car (temp car till i found my new one) was a 03 grand am SE, look up the alt specs im pretty sure it was a 130amp and hte car itself has about 60watts of draw to keep it running if i remember right (not sure what yours is).
i would double check EVERY connection to make sure everythings connected right. im talking every wire from the deck to the speakers, from te battery to the sub. make sure nothings ground out or anything like that.
