Upgrading System
Ok so I know very little about cars/speakers and such... but I do want to upgrade my system because from what I've heard from a few people, whoever owned my car before had better speakers in the trunk?
Anyways... here's what my trunk has at the moment, and I was wondering if anyone could clue me into how I'd go about upgrading...

The two amps and the capacitor are on the back of my seats, and those are the speakers in my trunk. I also have 2 door speakers, and 2 speakers on my side mirrors (however the one on my right side mirror is out, so I think I need to replace it).

kinda bland post no offence. little fyi; the 2 big things in your trunk are subs, the 2 things next to your windows are tweeters.[8D]
how much is your budget?
whatare you wanting to upgrade exactly? wanting more bass since you posted the subs and the amp im guessing?
what model subs are those? how much RMS/peak power can they handle and @ what ohm? cuz they might be able to take a little more power than that little 500w amp pushes but if its not much mroe i'd just scrap em and get a good sub or 2.

With that budget you can do alot. I would suggest that you work on the design of the system. Maybe keep the head unit and work on the subs and amp. While I used a Sony amp, as did you, my son has a Memphis Amp with better sound and design. I like the Autiobaun subs and invert them.
Here's what I did;
Ikept the stock Mach 1 system and head unit.Then built a .88 cubic foot box that held a 12" sub inverted and on a slight angle. Some angle, but using acircular saw and taking you time, its easy. Filled the box with fiber and covered is with faux leather. Then make a trunk lid cover and mounted the amp to the lid. My wife did a great job on the leather. The sub came from the local flea market and the sub off Ebay. Total cost was less that $300 and will still set of car alarms at the mall.

Damn your trunk looks nice. I'll look into doing something like that, but I know very little about this kind of stuff and I'm not sure where to start learning.
How long did it take you to do everything?

A weekend to build the box using simple tools. But it took a couple weeks for my son & I to create the design. After building the box, it took my wife a few days to do all the sewing. The following weekend my son & I completed the install.
Just take your time and come up with a design that you like. Inverting the subs and filling with fiber allows you to use a slightly small box size.

IMO I would lose the capacitors as they don't really do anything for you except provide some flashy lights. (This link explains why I say that: http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176417 ) In terms of your setup, sony amps are nice, but you have to watch their power advertisements. What you want is a high RMS power, not just high Peak Power, which is what Sony loves to advertise. And of course, you want to match your subs power ratings (impedance too) to the amplifier. The other thing I would do is with the subs and amp installed, put bass blocks on all the other speakes in the car.
Just my 2 cents. Good Luck man.

Really all it is is a small capacitor that you wire in series to either the positive or negative lead to the speaker. You can pick up a pack of 2 (does 2 speakers) at bestbuy or circuitcity for like $20
What it does is stop a certain frequency range from getting to the speaker. So for bass blocks, they stop the bass frequencies from getting to the speaker, so the speaker never tries to reproduce them.
