Default Need EXPERT help on subs!

Hey guys, so Saturday was my birthday, and I want to get some nice sound outta my GT...First off, I dont want to spend anything over $300.

It so far has a stock Mach460 system, but I found out that it has Infinity speakers (which somebody told me that they were not stock), and an older Alpine mp3 saving head unit, and a single 2 ch Clarion amp mounted to the back seat.

What I really want is some nice bass, but nothing DRASTIC because my interior will rattle like crazy. I just was some nice hitting subs, and not the crappy distortion I get from the 460 speakers.

How big a sub would be a good application? I was thinking a single 10" or 12" and a box from BestBuy...your thoughts?

I was looking at this sub. Thinking of buying one of these and a generic 12" box, then mount to the back of the seats in the trunk. Or how about a 2 10" sub setup? Too much??? They have Rockford Fosgates 10" subs for $79.99, and I was thinking of getting 2, then buying a dual 10" box for $91.00. Thats $250.00 out the door.

Thanks.

How big is this amp?

What are you planning on powering the woofers with the Clarion? Is it currently running your Infinity's?

I have no idea about the amp...It came with the car, and I don't know how to ID it.

Theres a big guage wire going to the Clarion, and I believe it is already powering the Infinity's.

I want somethingI can pick up, like at a retail store, like the ones I posted.

the big guage wire is probably the power cable. the wires that go to speakers arent very big at all. and there will be 4 of em. if theres no other wires other than the big one then your amp probably isnt even bieng used (perhaps it was a project that he never finished).

youll actually have 2 sets of 2 wires for both speakers bieng run (should be the back speakers).

pos and neg from deck to amp, pos neg from amp to left speaker. pos and neg from deck to amp, pos and neg from amp to right speaker.

The distortion you have could be related to the lack of a proper high pass filter on the infinity speakers. Infinities are not known for thier midbass and if you are trying to get some low end out of them they will distort. They will sound great with around 100hz high pass filter.

I would highly recommend not buying from a retail store like best buy or circuit city. Do yourself a favor and go to a quality car audio store. They will be knowledgeable, about the same price, and will do a much better job with installtion if you wish to defer thatjob. The people at BB and CC are basically trained monkeys that willtell you whatever you want to hearso that you buy thier stereo.

Ideally, the subs that seight mentioned are great for the money! ED is a good company and will set you up with good equipment.

The easiest solution to this would be to buy a 4 channel amp to put in place of the clarion and then use channels 3 and 4 to power the sub. You could do this very easily yourself and you could even sell your clarion for a little increase in budget.

Just remember when buying subs you get what you pay for. My friend had some cheap subs that just sounded horrible, they were loud but sounded like ****.

These are the subs i have and they sound great.
