So Im looking to put a sub in my car. Nothing obnoxious but something to give it a little bit of umph if ya know what I mean. Anyway, I went into a local stereo place and basically they said either 2 10's or 1 12, because anything more will be too much bass for a little car. I also want to keep the factory head unit, because I will eventually sell the car, and want to keep it stock. (BTW, my car is an 01 Chrysler sebring coupe, aka Mitsubishi eclipse with infinity system)
Anyway, the guy offered me a Pheonix gold 12inch sub in a box for 99$ he has been looking to get rid of. He also said he would sell me the Clarion Amp on the wall for 200$. Is the Pheonix Gold 12inch a good sub? Im not looking to win any competitions, but I also want something halfway decent. As far as the amp, is clarion Decent? The Amp is a display amp (as is the sub). Id imagine the 200$ amp isnt top of the line, but I dont know whats good and what isnt. Would you guys stay away from any of these things? Im basically looking for a fairly cheap setup that is still decent. I can upgrade later down the line when I have the cash.
Any thoughts on this? I havent heard of either one of these brands, but Im not really into car audio so I dont know many brands other than, say kicker, mtx, JL etc.

Clarion isn't all junk, they have some nice headunits.
PG is also a formerly amazing company, anything current from them I will not suggest to anyone, but their older equipment is amazing.

You should include some model numbers for us, theres too much of a range out there to just say a brand and say whether its good or bad. If you want a good subwoofer/amplifier combo for around $300...

I miss pg, they changed the name finally I thought and put the final nail in the coffin. They were the shtuff with the M all the way through the Ti series. I have an limited edition octane in my truck.

I miss pg, they changed the name finally I thought and put the final nail in the coffin. They were the shtuff with the M all the way through the Ti series. I have an limited edition octane in my truck.

saphire was not too shabby but there was not much beating the M class then. My boss has a M44 and a M100 at his shop I told him to call he if he ever parted with. 1/2 ohm stereo stable shtuff.......

PG is NOT all junk. Have you heard the Ti Elite Components? or the rsd?
The subs aren't all that great but PG is far from garbage.
I am pushing 300w on each side to my Ti Elites and honestly for the price I couldn't beat it.

they quit making the TI elite dopey, that was the last great thing they did(that morel did for them actually)!!!!! I saw them on close out for a great deal and almost picker up a set.
Enjoy them as you will never own a NEW piece of PG again.....
Now they are ryval or some BS like that.
