Neat. Thanks for your points. I'm done arguing with you further about it. I'm glad you know all there is to know about car audio. Thank you for your valuable insight and knowledge. You're correct; I know nothing about car audio and I only use complete and utter trash. I'm sorry for masquerading around here as if the situation were different.

Have a good one.

cool, so I win?

It is what it is and remember that one mans trash is another mans treasure... I myself am currently running a ****tpaper set of speaker in my stang. I needed something that was 4 ohm, cheap and disposable so where were you 3 months ago when I needed a set?

And again,

I WIN

Neat. Congratulations.

Enjoy.

..I was avoiding the car audio sections that many months ago, to be honest. But I was inclined to offer some suggestions for a few people so I gave in.

FWIW, these mids will be part of the front stage that replaces one set of OEM drivers in one of my vehicles (probably the Mustang, which I'm really leaning toward making my all-out SQ rig):

Jordan,

You might want to take it easy. IT TAKES A LOT TO GET TTOCS WORKED UP!!! A matter of fact, this is the first time in what is around 2 years that I have seen him use large font. Ttocs isvery knowledgeble in car audio and even better at what is directly compatible with the MACH system. His tutorial has saved many forum members quite the trouble when adding subs or just answering random questions.

The reviews on partsexpress were only from people replacing stock whizzer speakers and then there was your response. I'm not doubting these woofers are good for the price but as ttocs said they arenot a true component set.

Don't let others opinions keep you from posting your opinion in this forum, we are all posting our opinions.

I will say one thing though, I won't claim the $13.50 Elemental design subs I purchased tonight sound better most subs under $200. They might sound better then my W0 after I get them in, but the comparison will only be my opinion.

I don't make any claim that ttocs is not knowledgeable, because he clearly is. I just don't take kindly to people who [indirectly or otherwise] tell me that my system is garbage and that I know nothing about car audio. While I'm no "guru", there are very, very few who truly are.

I agree with his point that most component sets under $200 are lacking in one area ore another, although there are some very quality sets in that price range. Those sets are likely better than these OEM plates (the cost of a quality passive crossover eats up a lot in that $200 tag, IMO), but I honestly do feel that these plates, if crossed over properly, could handle their own against a lot of similar drivers (5.25" mids / 1" silk dome tweets). The only thing keeping them from being "true" components, to me, is the fact that all they have is a highpass crossover for the tweets.

FWIW, I don't ever use the passive crossovers included with my component sets, so I'm probably throwing a lot of money away when I buy component sets that include them. *shrug*

As for the Mach system; I understand everything you're saying about the 4ohm speakers not working as drop-in replacements.. This concept makes perfect sense--the 4ohm set should not work worth crap in the Mach system. Perhaps I just got lucky and the amps were straining to handle the components, but neither I nor anyone else who has listened to them in the setup has noticed it. But let's just let that one die and forget I suggested them as Machdoor speakerreplacements. I have nothing else to really say to help my case on it, so let's assume I'm wrong and move on.

Also, not ALL of the reviews were form people replacing stock garbage speakers. Most were, but not all (I'm not throwing this out for argument sake, I'm just throwing it out there).

I had to laugh last night as I realized I was in a debate about products and what sounds good. Ialways stayaway from questions as to "what should I buy" as what sounds good to you is all relative to you(and now we know why huh?). What kind of music, what kind of amps, what kind of wiring, what color is all up to you. When someone askes me what sounds good I tell them to go to a store, take a couple of cd's that you like, and spend about an hr bothering the sales guy doind a-b comparisons to see what you like, and then understand that it will sound completely different in your car(hopefully better). I hear alot ofpeople say that infinity is the best and I have owned them and found that their tweeters make my ears want to bleed, they are little to rich for me but others love em and could not imagine anything else. It was for this reason years and years ago that I decided to wonder my way back to the install bay and just never made my way back to the sales floor. You will probably never see me more annoyed then dealing with someone trying to find the right speakerand wanting to hear every speaker in the board(what I just recommended). I am a wrench by all definitions of the word and take no offence to any of them. Give me the gear, and point at the car and I will either put it in and tell you if it sounds ok, or tell you it will not fit and even then sometimes make it work and tell you if it is ok. AFter years installin in the midwest I became pretty good at putting a square peg in a round whole when it needed to go there but there are some times when you cannot find a big enough hammer to make it fit. Putting a 4 ohm woofer in place of an 8ohm is one of those places man. I have seen many many people put something in that may have worked for a while(their friend always knows more then me and swears "everything was wire right?!")that led to much much more trouble for me, the installer to fix. And at that point I look like the D as I have to now charge to fix what is broke, as well as to install what ever was messed up and I didn't want anything to do with it.

now again with this being said I am sorry you took offence to my description(the industry description) of your speakers. Being the wrench I am I have installed a wide range of products from stuff from the swap meet(labor for install was more then the product) to my ever so precious diamond audio. I have heard some budget sytems that certainly did sound good and that would make me looks stupid for spending what I do but it is rare. There is a time and a place for your speakers and I am sure you will convince more then a few people to follow you(as you already have) and when the application is right I would love for somebody to buy a set and confirm what you are sayin.

group hug time[:-]
