Jensen DVD HU/iPod video problem
I just had a Jensen VM9312 headunit installed in my car, and I can't get the thing to work with my 6th gen 160 gig iPod video. My installer and I played around with the J-Link and my Ipod in his shop for a few minutes but we couldn't get it to work. We set the iPod up per Jensen's instruction manual (TV Out switched to on, widescreen mode, NTSC on), but no luck. Can anyone tell me what we did wrong? TIA.
I have the same problem, so I talked to the Jensen's people and they said:
"The new iPODS, [Nano w/video, iTouch, and "Classic" 80 and 160 gig] will play music on our radios, charge their battery, and the interface works the same as the prior iPODS did, i.e. with music, etc. However, they only play video or photos on their own internal screen. This is a change from the current iPODS. Apple made this sudden change and disabled the video out on both the 30 pin connector AND the headphone jack on the new iPODS for some reason."
"We are working with Apple now to design in a special authorization IC to enable the newest iPODS to play video in our next generation of radios. We have no firm date on when we will have a product available that activates the video out on the new iPODS. There won't be any adapters made for the older radios for the new iPODS."
So I will change my ipod to the 5th Generation.
Good Luck

The Jensen VM products are definitely not junk. I had a Pioneer AVIC D3 and it doesn't support the 6G ipod video either. There is supposed to be an updated cable from Pioneer though. The problem is definitely a result of Apple putting in a restriction. I recently sold my D3 and replaced it with a VM9022 and I couldn't be happier.
I have owned three different Jensen VM products and three different Pioneer Video products. I prefer the Jensen models hands-down. This is especially true for the current crop, i.e. VM9312, VM9412, VM9512 and VM9022. They provide features that nobody can touch for the price. The current crop also has a lot of nice touches in the interface. These are things that won't be apparent unless you use them on a daily basis. Things, like video sensing. If you select an aux input that only has audio it presents a common GUI screen and if it sense video it plays the video. The D3 showed a black and backlit video screen. The Jensen has fade-in and fade-out when selecting sources or performing certain audio functions. The Jensen has a programmable turn-on volume as well. I could go on and on but it's things like this that I care about. I don't have any experience with the non-video Jensen products though.
