Default Infinity Kappas

I just bought a set of 5x7 infinity kappas with external crossovers for my f250 SD and they're only going to be pushed by my 4x40w 7" lcd flipscreen head unit. How are they going to sound without an amp? Is anyone else using these?

They will sound ok, but you would really need an amp to get what you paid for.

I only paid 74.00 for them brand new. Will they be better than stock? I'm pretty sure that this DVD headunit has a built in amplifier. I've heard that it fries stock speakers. It's a Jensen VM9311TS.

The reason a headunit will fry speakers is becuase they are entirely too weak to drive a speaker at loud volumes.

Your amp will be clipping like crazy when you really turn it up loud and the high frequency distortion will eventually burn up the coil.

External amps are very worthwhile for any speaker setup!

it will certainly sound different then stock. Alot of people like infinity speakers but the tweeter tends to be a little too rich fer me.

An am will help them sound as good as then can but it will still be a large step forward.

it is not that they lack in midrange, it is that the tweeter overpowers the rest of the speaker. Take some of the highs out with the treble adjustment is about the best you can do.

I have heard them in some systems so bad that I thought my ears were gonna bleed, just as I were to look at the owner of the car who thinks that it rocks like no other. Different strokes ya know.

in good news though I think they tend to mellow out after some time, either that or they sound better after you loose that top portion of yer hearing.

i have infinity kappa perfect fronts, rears, and subs. i LOVE That brand, the sound quality is only second to extremly high priced stuff such as mbquart. if you listen to metal and hard rock like i do...you'll be glad you made that choice. just make sure you amp them, any speaker will sound like crap running off ANY deck.
