Default help a newbie with his 6-cd, please?

First of all, I have little or no idea what I'm doing here...but I do know where I want to end up!

I'm considering the purchase of an 01 GT convertible, with a 6-cd changer. Hopefully, there's a pic attached.

After reading all the posts about this "wonderful" unit, the first thing I want to do is yank it out and replace it with something that will give me MP3 capability (not necessarily a changer) and Sat radio. My questions are this...Are ALL 6-cd changers the Mach stereo? One thing I noticed is that I don't see the word "Mach" on the HU or any speaker.

If it is, how difficult is a headend unit swapout? I assume there are electronics to be bypassed? Perhaps someone (Crutchfield?) has some kind of adaptor kit where you can continue to use the factory amps? And how about the speakers, are they standard 4 ohm or perhaps 2 ohm?

So many questions, so much to learn! Frankly, the radio is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on this car.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Mike / Austin

you could have either wiring system in there or a mix of both. Some systems had a small amp under the deck that did not do much other then add to the sticker. You will need to pull the deck and see what is behind/under it and what wiring is there.

page 2 of my cardomain page shows a quick integration into my 94 gt with the 460. most shops will tell you that you have to pull everything to put a deck it, don't believe the hype.

Thanks for the help, I'll go to that page right now. Sometimes I think Ford just wanted to make this stuff hard for us!
