05-08 trunk set ups!
Hey guys I wanna see how people have their trunks set up with subs!!! I recently took all of my equipment out and I am planning on putting it back in ...so I am looking for some ideas!
I was wondering if it would sound better having the subs face the inside of the car, with the rear seats folded down? I think it might be a good idea, because your not gonna get all the trunk rattle with them facing that way instead of facing the trunk. Any suggestions?
The direction the sub faces should make little to no impact on sound quality.
Many times the subs reflect off the back glass in a hatchback and the relfection allows the sound waves to directed towards the front of the car. When you aim towards a trunk lid you ususally just increase noise from your car rattling when the sound is absorbed by the body of the car and replayed as vibrations.
Ideally you would have a sub in the front passenger compartment, but in a car this is very difficult to accomplist with a true subwoofer.
The sub in my daily driver faces the middle of the car and it sounds great. In my wifes bimmer the subs are aimed at the trunk, but it is sound proofed well enough to not allow many vibrations.
In my 65 stang I would really liketo mount a couple 8's in the package tray and seal them off from the trunk, but this might prove to be a little difficult.
If you are really messing with sound quality, build yourself a quality box instead of buying a prefab piece of garbage.

Facing back towards rear is most common placement as it sends good return off the back of the trunk. Personally i have mine laying flat and did not miss any sound quality(although my system is a beast), i did this and mounted some small purple lights in back that reflect off my box and the 2 amps that are mounted on my seats. Ill post a pic later. I am gonna have to secure the box down with small L brackets on the side of the box, cause even with the box being heavy, it does shift laying on its back. One more note, i was EXTREMELY impressed that i didnt have any rattle in trunk when system was completed, i was actually shocked. The only rattle i have is the huge power that shakes all the way up my floorboard to my feet because of the amazing power. Anyway, good luck with the mounting.
