Default diamond audio

okay i have a jensen motorized dvd cd player in the dash, 4 guage tsunami wireing, 2 diamond D3 12's, a tsunami 5 farad (yes 5 farad not .5 farad capacitor) and a directed audio 2,400 mono amp... for some reason the amp keeps going off after some serious bass songs. like in the middle of the song the amp will cutt out for 20 seconds then start going again. ive checked the amp out with a tester, and the subs...nothing wrong... i was told it was the alternator(it cant feed the cap or the amp fast enough)... if i get a 200 amp alternator do you think this will get rid of my problem? or just cause more problems?anything u guys think it might be?

oh yeah and its all in a 2000 mustang gt convertable

thanks for any help

1. Get rid of the capacitor and buy yourself an optima battery. Caps are good paperweights, read the sticky.

2. Check the impedence of your subs and the impedence ratings of your amp. Some mono blocks are only rated down to 2 ohms, so if you have anything less the amp will thermal.

Are they dual 2 ohmor dual 4 ohm speakers?

2 of either in full parrallel configuration will result in a resistance of 1 ohm or less. That low of a load is very possibly thermaling your amp.

they are dual 2 ohm. and the amp specs says it can go to 1 ohm or what ever. i think im going to pick up a 200 amp alternator this week to see if i can get rid of my problem

That will not get rid of your problem!!!!!!!!!

If you have dual 2 ohm speakers and have them wired in all parrallel configuration the resisitive load is 0.5 ohms! Half the resistance means roughly twice the power, twice the power roughly equates to twice the heat, and whammy, your amp thermals.

You need to either get 4 ohm dvc speakers and run them all in parrallel, or run your existing speakers in series/parrallel for a 2 ohm total load.

Look here http://bcae1.com/at go to number 58 on the left window. It should explain everything and show you how to properly wire your subs.

Look at the jl or rockford site, they also explain how to wire it.

Parrallel means you connect positive to positive and negative to negative. Like this

Amp VC1 VC2
+ ---------------+ ------------- +
- --------------- - ------------- -

Series looks like this.

Amp VC1 VC2
+ ------------ +
--------------- +
------------------------------ -

Green and Red are wires.

Wire each one of your subs in series and keep them connected to your amp like they are now. Its not that hard.

does the amp get hot and shut off for thermal protection? Does it turn off as soon as you start jammin on it or after 15-20 mins.

I currently have a D9 800.4 hooked to my stock alt(125A fuse rating) and it can drag my alt down less then 12v at idle, but it does not turn off. I am going to install my 200A tommorow of the next day. I got mine off of ebay, maybe if I direct you there he can hook us up since I just recieved mine yesterday and have not left feedback yet. He might be anxois to make a deal since I was a little crappy to him since he did not send a tracking number till the day I recieved it.....

I paid $95 shipped.

I had a similar problem with my setup and it ended up being a bad cap, so I re-weired everything new grounds etc and she runs great now no problems. Just get rid of the cap and get a good ground and you should not have any more problems. Also make sure your amp levels are not set to high you might also be over heating your amp as well. Good luck.
