Building a system, need some advice
Hey guys im going to start putting a system together for my car. Looking for a decent sound quality and price. I listen to mostly rock, metal, country, and a very little bit of rap. Im going on reviews from crutchfield and searching on here for equipment and this is what im looking at right now.
Head Unit- Alpine CDA-9884
Front Speakers- Component Polk Audio DB5251 5.25"
Rear Speakers-Either same as above or some kind of 5x7 or 6x8
Speaker Amp- 4 Channel of some kind, was looking at Alpine
Sub Amp- ?, Alpine again maybe
Sub- ? looking at something 10", with either a premade or custom box that really doesn't take up much space.
So let me know what you guys think, i may start by just getting speakers, amp, and head unit first. Then adding the sub and amp later as money permits. The car does have the mach 460 so i will tear all that out. For you 99-00 guys what did you do to the lower slot in the dash where the cassette player was? Thanks in advance to those that respond

i have alpine cda9857 and i love it. Make sure that the alpine deck has bbe. Its stands for base boost engineering. The best feature alpine decks have. Makes your sub hit so much harder. Well worth finding one with it. I will not buy a deck without it. I have alpine type r 5by 7s for the rear. I have a alpine type r 10 with an alpine v power 450 amp. For the doors i went with planet audio componets. The 10 pounds for being underpowered.
Please don't listen to anything in the post above. Bass boosts are distortion machines.
In order to get you the best system for the money, we need to know a couple things.
What is your budget for the system?
Do you want this budget to include a sub, or would you rather add a sub and additional amp later with more funds?
You have your taste in music, do you want all out loud bass or good sound quality? A mixture of both?
How much trunk space are you willing to give up?
Your ideas are a good starting point but it looks like you have been shopping at best buy and circuit city. Those places sell only entry level car audio and they sell it for the price of higher quality equipment. With a budget we can set you up with an amazing system that might even use some brands you have never heard of.

Im looking for good sound quality, i don't want the "all you can hear is bass" system.I think the most i can devote to the system without a sub is $500 right now. When i get the sub iwas looking at a single 10", i know he box needsa certain amount of volume for it to compliment the sub. So as little trunk space that can be used, but still sounding good.I be more than interested to check out some of the other brands you are thinking of.
With $500 this would be an awesome start!
HU: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5432$215
Front Speakers: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3341$200 (You will have to make adapters for a 5.25 or a 6.5 so you might as well get the stronger midbass of the 6.5)
Amp: http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/4348$75
You would also need all the wiring which will run you around $50, so if you need cheaper speakers give these a shot for $150: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4418
Wiring kit for amp (this will make it easy to add a sub and sub amp): http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/3369$24
and you will need to get the right harness for your HU as well. (10$ at wal-mart)
When a proper front soundstage is built using quality front speakers and amplification, the majority of people will not even feel the need for rear speakers. If you really want some, get some cheap coax's from walmart and fadeheavily to the front.

Thanks PReal! That an awesome deal on that amp! I'll begin grabbing those items, would it be a good idea to get another one of those amps for a sub, or is there a better option?
nope you will need a class d amp for sub. Also, as far as the specs on the above amp are very decieving in no form will that amp produce what its specs are but for 75$ u cant expect much more.

A couple comments...
You do not NEED a class D amp for a sub, BUT it will produce much more power and allow for expandability of your subs.
That amp will put out close to its rated power. If you don't car too much about looks, look on ikesound at the profile CA series. The profile amps will produce thier rated power and will even come in a little cheaper then the hifonics.
The reason I suggested that amp is becuase hifonics offers a variety of class D amps that don't produce thier rated power but make plenty of power for a pretty nice sub. Examples:
http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/6628
http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/4362
http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/4367
As disturbed said, hifonics are not the greatest amps on earth. They will make good power and are pretty reliable. (I've only had one catch fire on numberous installs...)
If you want to go ahead and add a sub and amp, or know what I would recommend, give me a budget for your sub amp and sub. Also, let me know if you will build the box. (Buildign your own box is easy and will give the best results.)
I think i should be able to put about 3-400 towards the sub/amp combo. But'll i'll modify my budget for either part (amp/sub and speakers/amp) if the extra cost would produce a noticeable difference quality wise. on a side note i found that HU for 175 shipped on ebay
