How much do you want to spend?
What type of music do you listen to?
How much of your trunk are you willing to give up?
Do you already have an aftermarket HU?
Will you install yourself (it is easy)?
Do you just want subs or do you want a system?

I am willing to spend around 600 and will be in the future upgrading my headunit and stock speakers...But for now I want if possible a sub and Amp setup in the trunk without taking up all of the space. And I've never installed anything in my own car and do not trust myself to do so lol
Just looking for a good Sub setup that'll work with a stock system.

$600 is really enough for an entire setup.
The speakers play 99.9% of the frrequency range and would make a huge impact on overall sound of your system.
The HU is the source for everything. Its quality determines the overall sound of the system...

This is a copy of a recomendation that I just made on another forum.
The speakers recomended here are probably not going to fit your car, but it should give you an idea of the type of products you should be looking at.
Note: This recomendation was made for someone who didn't want a trunk rattling system, just something that was better than stock, yet not overly loud. Adjust as necesary for your particular tastes...
Note 2: I agree with PReal, that upgrading your Head Unit will make your sound system way better. You can have the best speakers/amps in the world, but if the HU is not putting out good sound, you will have very accurate playback of something bad.

The ideal setup for you, would be a good set of speakers on the front, a regular set of speakers in the rear (regular aftermarket is still better than premium stock), and a small sub in the rear.
This can be easily pulled of by a 4 channel amplifier. This amplifier would power the front speakers, giving you a good sound stage, and the small sub in the trunk. The rear speakers would only provide a bit of fill, and would be powered by the head unit.
Staying within your budget, assuming you get everything from crutchfield (worst case scenario as far as budget's are concerned, but good customer service
)
Rear Speakers:
Polk Audio db521 $90
This are very sensitive, meaning that they require little power to produce sound.

Or Infinity Kappa 52.7 $130 (Some people find them very bright, so this depends on your tastes...)

Amplifier:

Subwoofer:
JBL GTO 804 $70.
This will add extra punch to the music, and requires a very small enclosure, saving your trunk real estate... Mind you, this is not the kind of setup that will make your trunk rattle, but it's definitely better than the civic's premium sound, and well within your budget.
JBL Grand Touring Series GTO804 8" 4-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
Total for components:
$460
You will need to get a wiring kit. It should include a power wire, a ground wire, a remote wire (all required by the amp), fuse holder (for the main power wire), and some speaker wire.
This one from knukonceptz will run you about $40 with shipping
Knukonceptz product detail for COMPLETE 8 GAUGE AMPLIFIER INSTALLATION KIT.
A sealed box for your subwoofer (between 0.3 -0.5 cFt ) can be found locally for around $50 (or less).
Total so far $550.
If you're doing your own installation, that's it.
If you're paying a good shop to install this, it may bump you all the way to $700, staying right within budget!
You can save about 20~25% on the components if you track them down on ebay. Crutchfield is know for their high prices, but you do get a nice warranty, install gear, and peace of mind.

Polk speakers are OK but $90 on rear fill is a complete waste!
Bostons are a good idea, but $150 for coax's is a rip. Better can be had for less.
I have owned infinity speakers, THEY ARE BRIGHT NO MATTER WHO YOU ASK!!!
That amp is decent, but really weak for the price.
That JBL woofer is a terrible value. You could get a much better quality 8 or even a better quality 10 or 12 for that price.
Knukonceptz makes great wire, but for a $600 setup, wire is wire. Buy from wal mart or a welding supply store.
Anyone that recommends a prefab box needs to take a beating. Unless you are retarded, you can make a box. If you can't cut, home depot will for you!
Anyone think this box is any good? http://www.soundoffaudio.com/item.cfm/id/2204 Any any suggestions on 12" subs to fill it in.
PReal, I specifically stated that those are current crutchfield prices!
I mentioned about 4 times that it's a worst case scenario. I know that if you get everything from ebay you could shave about 30 - 40% off that price.
Crutchfield is a very successful company because a lot of people don't like to deal with the uncertainty of ebay, and love the convenience that they offer. Sure, they pay through the nose for it, but some people like it. I do all my recomendations based on crutchfield prices, because again it's a worst case scenario, and helps people budget accordingly (Underpromise & overdeliver).
By the way, I see nothing wrong with a good quality MDF pre-fab box that's within 0.1cFt of the recomended box. Sure, it's easy to build a box, but some people really don't have the time/tools/patience/location to build a box.
I never ever recommend prefab for ported / bandpass, etc though...
To recap one last time:
I KNOW THE PRICES ARE HIGH BECAUSE THEY'RE CRUTCHFIELD PRICES!!!!! I mention this fact several times.
What I recomended in this case is a moderate system, thinking of user convenience. I know and I understand that there is a plethora of products in the market that may be a better fit for rfeyjoo's taste/budget. I just wanted to post this as an example of what can be found out there, which is what he originally requested
By the way, you basically agree with everything that I said, except for the prices, (for which I already explained my position...) so I guess my recomendation isn't that bad after all
