Default V6 stock stereo help

A friend of mine is loaning me his box with two 12" subs and matching amp, it's an old sony xplode setup. I'm wondering if i can hook up these subs and amp to my stock stereo in my '06 V6 Mustang.. I believe it's the Shaker 500 stereo, as none of the features are really turned on (gauge color changes etc). I somewhat know what i'm doing because i replaced the stock stereo in my '85 LX all by myself (took me 3 days to break the stock cassette player into pieces and force it out of the back).

But as it's been awhile, i'm not really sure what all i need to do. I know i need to run power to the amp, a radio wire, a ground wire in the trunk and possibly get a converter for audio plugs

Can anyone give me any advice?
i can't see a damn thing behind the stereo, so i don't really know how to get the stereo tooutput to the ampx_x

is the wiring still the same? (yellow = 12 volt power? blue = AM/FM output?)
bah i can't remember

help plz!

It only took you 3 days?

Anyways...
I just answered this same question 30 seconds ago, so I'll copy paste from the other post:

You don't even need to remove the deck for this.
Basically, all you need is a 4 gauge wiring kit (about $40 www.knukonceptz.com). Run this to the trunk as stated by al the FAQ's / DIY here on the site

If your amplifier has high level inputs, you can just do a split of your rear speakers cable into the amp.
If the amp only has RCA inputs, then get a Line Out Converter, and do a split of your rear speaker cable. (The LOC's basically convert your speaker cable's high level signal into a low level RCA output for the amp)

an 85 normally has its factory radio in the car for a reason. I have been installing for almost 15 yrs now and I have done one, and turned many away..... We were lucky that one was a convertable as it makes it easier for the one person to pull the dash up, while the other person eats all the old dust while working it out(after removing all the ac and heating ducts). They installed the radio in the dash, and then the dash in the car.

There is a well written article about doing this to the mach460, and it is the same thing with different locations. You will tap the line out converter at the sub box. Will it be worth it? Eh not if it is temporary and you have to give it back.

ttocs, i've already taken care of my 85
i decided to scrap all of the stereo wiring, speakers, radio and everything for it.
the speakers installed in the car were terribly old and a few of them had screws rusted so bad, it'd be impossible to get the old ones out.
i had to buy a converter piece for the wiring btw

ANYWAY

i'm not trying to put the subs and amp in my 85, forget that car, it's only a 2.3L X_X

i'm trying to hook up subs and amp in my 06 V6

i actually do NOT have the shaker 500 stereo
i just have the super duper regular one that looks just like the shaker systems

will these create any new problems Spyder?
thanks for the encouragement!

I know which car it is going in but it will take a beginer the better part of a day, maybe two to install an amp and if you are going through all of this only to give the stuff back it is not worth it.

With the stock radio it is easier to install.

Spiro I'm not familiar at all with an '85, but assuming you have rear speakers that;s probably the best location to tap teh Line out converter. It shouldn't matter what stereo you have.

The line out converter will take a signal that's meant for a speaker (So you can tap that wire at any point, up to the speaker itself) and convert itinto something usable by the amplifier. Same goes for amplifiers with high level inputs. They will allow you to split the wire going to the speaker, and use that signal to feed the amp directly. Granted, you won't have the same quality as a low level output coming directly from the head unit, but in most cases it's a lot easier to get to the speaker wire, than to get to the back of a head unit (Especially after what I'm reading on this thread).

You only need to run a power wire (properly fused) from the battery to the amp, and also a remote wire that can be pulled from the fuse box. The function of this one is to turn ion the amp only when the car is on. There are a number of wires you can tap for this purpose, as long as they only have current when the car is on. (Cigarrete lighter is my favorite...). Again, I'm not familiar with the '85 so I' can't really do any recomendations as far as taping power for the remote turn-on goes.

This one is simple since you only want an amp and a sub, If you're upgrading the whole system, you're better off doing a full overhaul.
