Default Need serious help. Fried XM

I went to hardwire my XM radio into my overhead console. Found the "always hot" wire, put an inline 250AC, 5 amp fuse, grounded to the metal inside the overhead compartment. I used the cigarette lighter wire to splice into everything (after cutting off the plug). Hooked it up and fried my XM radio (heard a small pop and smelled burnt electronics). I know it's the radio cause I tried to hook it up to my truck with no luck. I'll have to buy a new one, but I don't want to fry the next one so I need to know what is wrong. Plug on the XM cig adapter says 5V DC 200mA. What'd I get wrong? Inside the fuse of the cig adapted it has a 2 amp fuse. Did I simply have too big a fuse? I didn't think to look inside the cig plug before hooking up (dumbass).

are you sure you hooked it up correctly? There are only two power wires and to get that reaction I would have to say theymight have been backwards?
