Default RE: mounting ?

i have one built that was made sealed, but due to issues understanding that these were volume dimensions with the speaker inside, i made it slightly too small. so i inverted the sub so it would be within the reccommmendations. Im using 2 kicker 10" L5's (yes the square ones so please dont bash me for them) the interrior dimensions are 8.5x12.5x12.5 of both boxes. (minus 2 (4x2x1) blocks for support per box so it gives me about .75 cu ft per box not loaded. kicker suggests .66-1 cu ft per speaker sealed and 1.25-2.25 cu ft ported.

i would prefer to build the box myself. the speakers are going inside the cabin. thats for two reasons, one its more showy, two there are no trunk rattles cause the s197 trunks rattle like crazy.

i know i'd be way off the mark if i ported this box as far as volume dimensions, but i have filled the box with polyfill and think i can get the box tuned right. ( i have the right port dimensions for a .76 cu ft box tuned to 35 Hz)

thanks for the help audiophile.

i checked the seal and its air tight. theres a small hole in the magnet though (a design feature) that has air coming through it (from behind the spider). when i plug it the sound gets worse. much worse. at low volumes the enclosure sounds awesome. tight bass and very responsive, but when it gets cranked theres that sound of moving partsand air rushing around. is there lubrication for the spiders or the leads going to the voicecoils? if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated...

that hole is called a vented pole piece and is made to cool the coil, DO NOT BLOCK THE HOLE!!! AND do not "lubricat" anything on the speaker

I am afraid to tell you that kickers always like a big box, and big power to make big sound.

When the sub is out of the box, does it make noise when you push it up and down? If so your coils got a little warm

well ill see if they do when i take them back out today. i just got done talking to my installer and im getting that i need the max sizse ported box for the right effect in my car. he said it called for 3" ports on each 10. and yeah i dropped the 12" out of the lineup. mostly because i dont have enough space. so thursday i start the build on a single 5 cu ft box for both my 10's. gonna have a divider and two 3" ports firing up with the subs firingtowards the cabin. sound good to anyone? setup is goin in where my back seat was. do you guys think the setup soundsalright?

5 ft^3 is a little big for a pair of 10's i would make the box 4ft^3 net volume, common chamber with a single 4x10" port that is 15.5" deep. Fire both the subs and the port up. Put both subs on one side of the box and the port on the other, also have fun mounting that box its kinda tricky when you take out the back seat.

well. for each sub theres a 2.25 cu ft requirement, so i was taking into account the large divider, port volume and speaker volume. so i figured 4.5 cu ft needed and theres atleast gonna be .5 cu ft of stuff taking up space. i wanted there to be a little show to it also, thats why i want to fire the subs at the cabin. will it make a huge difference to face them inwards? also, the port tube will be easier to work with for me. is there a reccommended length/size/material that you would use? (i was told pvc pipe works well) or should i really use the slot port? im not just looking for db's, i want some sound quality too.

Round ports are easy to "install" you cut a hole and mount it, slot ports take careful measuring, angles, all that. I always run slot when i can. If I were doing a budget system and wanted it done and less hair pulling on doing calculations and so forth I would do round ports. If your tight for space slot ports usually help out with that too, cause you usually run it the length of on side atleast.

If you wanted your system louder, having the enclosure in the cabin for one is going to put a huge damper on that idea. Two facing them towards the front of your car is another step in the wrong direction.

5 cube?!?!? [&:]Jesus, my Dual Tempest box is 5 cube, and thats for a pair of 15"!!!

I would highly consider/suggest this
i would make the box 4ft^3 net volume, common chamber with a single 4x10" port that is 15.5" deep. Fire both the subs and the port up. Put both subs on one side of the box and the port on the other
