mounting ?

will changing the setup from sealed to ported make a difference in clarity/loudness? i know generally the sealed sounds cleaner than ported, but i was wondering if it wuold make a positive differnce in this case...
and does the box volume for a ported enclosure really make a huge difference as long as its tuned to the right frequency? what do you all reccommend? 35? ish? the resonant freq is 33.3Hz, ive heard to not tune the speakers to their resonant frequency, that true?
the box is currently sealed within specs for a box of this type. but im not getting the cleanest sound. im not sure if its just the sound of the air hitting the magnet or what. im no longer getting the ****ty bottoming out sound that i was before, or the annoying clicking type sound, but it sounds like air rushing past something. i was hoping porting would help this out. can anyone help? please no one say buy something other than kicker, cause theyre staying. i paid for them, theyre gonna work. thanks to all who can help.

Inverting your subs will have no noticable difference in output by ear, but for ported enclosers it can change the tunning frequency depending on the woofer and size of the box...
Ported enclosers can sound just as clean as sealed but also can gain SPL output. Ported enclosers have to be properly designed in order to see the gains your looking for. Just purchasing an off the shelf prefab encloser will most likely dissapoint you.
Internal volume of the box is very important, as well as port area. But thats dependant on the woofer your using. I wouldn't recoment tunning at the FS of the speaker. Tuning a little higher will allow the speaker to take advantage of the ensloser. But again there are other things to consider, like type of music, power, SQ?, SPL? ect...
As far as the sound of air rushing past somthing it seams like the woofer isnt mounted corectly and there is air escaping past the cone, which would create that sound.

the port will be donecustom, not off the shelf. i have the port dimensions for the size box that i have to achieve the corrrect tuning frequency, but my box is not quite as big as whats reccommended. is that a problem?
ill check the seal again, but im certain its properly sealed. the box was sealed tightbefore i changed the speaker setup (regular vs. inverted) and the only thing that has been redone was the ropecaulk between the speaker and the box and it pulled real tight when i screwed it in...
