Okay, here it goes.... I am a girl without a clue on what to buy. Can anyone help on suggestingsubwoofers and amp for my car? I have the shaker 500 sound system but want to add subwoofers so it will have a really hit on rap and country songs. I have heard that the JL W3's 12" subs are good but any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated!! Also, any suggestion on an alarm system? I will be getting my car in a couple of days (I had louvers, side panels, 20" tires and rims, and a bullitt grill put in)! I am really excited.... I saved for a long time to get my car!!

 

In order to make some recommendation we need a little more info...

1) How much do you want to spend?

2) Do you care more about Loudness or Sound Quality?

3) Will you eventually want a nicer CD player and better sounding speakers?

4) Who is going to install the equipment?

 

I want to spend around $1000 if possible and eventually I want to replace the shaker with a touch screen and better door speakers. I want it to hit very loud but still have some sound quality also. I am either going to get Tweeter or Car Toys to install it but just overwhelmed with all the different types of systems. I really appreciate your help!

 

Just elaborating on Preal's post and to add those are the basics for all recommendations on sound sytems. One of the best things I would also add to his post is to go to different shops that sells speakers and listen to them. Make sure you bring your own music you like listening to as well. With this you can get an idea of what sound you like. Just an example you might like the sound of polk speakers as compared to alpine speakers. Also check this website out www.woofersetc.com that is a good site on prices and Preal will give a recommendation that will be in budget.

 

$1000 for just the subs and amp or for the whole system?

For a $1000 and an SPL setup I would go with...

Get the installers to build you a custom ported box to Fi specs with a tuning frequency of around 35hz.

I just hope $400 is enough to cover the box, wiringand the install.

The equipment they sell at tweeter and car toys will not hold a candle to that equipment for the price.

 

Where do you live? Are there any custom shops in the area? You should try and find a none big box store to do the install, does Car Toys or Tweeter even do boxes?

She could always had eD build the box... Then your just down to a standard amplifier install.

 

tweeter is one of the few big boxes that can offer custom work. They make boxes both wood and glass, and they sell diamond audio as well so I like them more then the others.
