alarm for vert
i thinking of putting a alarm in my convertible is there anything special to look for in a alarm for one.special sensors or anthing to look 4 . id like to keep the cost around $300 or so im going to install it my self i know my car better than them...thanks for help rob
I was working as a pro installer for almost a year before I even attempted an alarm, and then it was done under supervision/instruction of my manager that had been doing them for almost 10 yrs. Security is not for the faint of heart and is difficult when everything does go right, it is a royal pain in a couple of peoples ***** when it goes bad and it can go bad easily. A great alarm with a bad install will not only make the alarm fail, but can also make the vehicle fail to start, run, or be safe. You will be cutting into the ignition hrns, kinda like the spinal cord of your car..........
for $300 you can get a pretty good alarm, installed with a lifetime warrenty from a local shop.........

well then the only thin that would be optional for a convertable is an interior motion sensor. These are finacky little things that will require regular tuning as the season changes to allow you to leave the top down in security. They can pick up trees above them or people walking by and can make alot of false alarms.
Other problems that you will need to prepair for is the door locks. Ford likes to use a 5-wire system inmustangs that will require you diagnosing the proper wires, as well as the master/slave switch orientation to properly insert the relays needed to lock and unlock the doors. Out of all the wiring types there is only one other I would rate harder. This is all made more difficult with the wires for these are all pink with varius striped indicators, that tend too wear off after about 5 years, and they are in a difficult place to access(behind the dash speakers or high in the kicks). A nice honda would really be the car to learn on........

A basic system will go off when your door is opened while armed. A better system will have trunk and hood sensors so if either of them are popped while armed, it will go off. Thats what i have on my car. But if you want a great system, try to get one with a tilt sensor so if anyone sits on your car of lifts it, it will go off. This is really good for a car with nice rims.
