planning out new system, opinions?
hey guys, got a few ideas for a new set up in my car, just dont like how my car is set up now.
What my plans are is keep my pioneer deh-5900 h/u, get most likely an autotek mm100.4 mid and hi amp and run 2 oz audio 5.25s or 6.5s. I'm trying to decide whether or not to do kickpods. I have never made them before and thought it would be cool to have them but it looks like anywhere I place it, it will be in the way of my clutch pedal. any reccomendations? then either keep the rear 5/7s or possibly remove them and run 2 6/9s in boxes in the rear on top of the sub box( just a thought, dont know how it would work). then for my sub and amp combo I'm thinking of going with a single 12 in audioque hdc3 or an fi q because I like haveing a loud systme but I would have a sq system over an spl system anyday. for the amp I was told if I got the audioque to run 2 kicker zx 1500.1 ams but I think thats a little much for a daily system. so I was thinking maybe a single kicker zx1500.1 or a us amps md1. ideas? for the box I'm thinking of going with around 3.5 cubes with sub up and dual aero ports back tuned to around 35 hz.
So what do you guys think? criticism welcome, I want to get it right the first time instead of doing multiple systems to find the right sound.
thanks in advance

I built kick panels for my 94 gt, but that was because I was using a 3 way 6 - 4 - 1 setup and needed the space for the 4 and the tweeter. You can fit 6.5 in the doors with no problems, but you can also put kick panels that will not interfere with the clutch, but you will loose the dead pedal.
would I put it in the kick panel or should I build them into the door? I know that one of the better things of having the kick pods is that their sealed and they aim up further than just having them in the door.
anyone have pics so I could have somewhat of an idea?

page 7 er 8 of my cardomain page. Kick panels offer bettere imagining because you get the distance from each speaker to your ear to be close to the same so there is not allignment or phasing issues.
that looks really nice, are those fiberglassed? and also were did you get the sealed pods, or did you make them?
I just hooked up a kenwood kac-848 4 channel amp to my speakers and was amazed at how much better they sounded. I never thought my polk audio speakers could sound this good. I tried to take almost all the bass off of them before and just have the bass going to the subs but I couldnt do it with just the H/U but with this amp they sound incredible and still have a little mid left.
They dont sound great but compaired to just having them off my H/U it was way more than I was expecting.
just curious if this was a good idea or not, I had my head unit installed at circuit city because instillation was free but they had to rewire the car. they linked the door and dash speakers and tweeters to the same channel I really dont think this is how it should have been done but I havent done any installs were I had to completly rewire the speakers. so what I did when I ran the amp to my speakers is cut the two speakers off from the head unit and kept the tweeter on it because they tweeter are already really harsh and I dont want them any louder. was this a good decision? also on my head unit I have front, rear and sub outputs. I ran all the speakers to the front output because that was really the only way I could run it with the amp that I got for free. Is this ok to do or should I find a way to make it work with all the pre outs?

ok I just looked over your car domain page and saw how you made the sealed pods and thats awesome I like how that looks too, but how did you get the speaker wire in? drill a hole and seal it around the wire with glue or caulk? I'm thinking of something like that but putting them in the actual door instead. I dont know how I'm going to make this work but I want to make the wood piece into the door grill because mines old and cracked and they previous owner of my car put screws in were there are supposed to be pops but none of the screw holes work because thers like 8 or 9 different screw holes for each of the 3 screws he put threw the door grill and into the door skins metal panel
what year is your car?
The kick panels are fiberglass and wood and they are built on top of the factory panel.
I made the wood baffles, the enclosures are made of thick tupper ware that I further dampened with dynamat. I cut a small hole in the side that was a little smaller then the wire and fed it through. The dynamat helped to seal it but I am not concerned with a small leak.

my cars an 89 hatch, o I was just wondering because I was thinking about fiberglassing but dont really know anything about it or how to do it. I know the only way to learn is to do it but still I would rather practice on something that I wont have to deal with on a daily basis if I mess up.
what did you think of my idea of just using the tupper ware container and using the wooden baffles as the door grill?
also how did you make the actual cloth or mesh grill?

anyone else have opinions? also people who have done installs in an foxbody hatch, what did you tune your boxes to ? also what type of box and angle?
what I'm planning is a single 12 fired up with two aero ports aimed towards the back, this is what I have heard sounds best for hatchbacks but I know every car is different

you could make the baffle to replace the part that is broken on the bottom. Fiberglass is something that you do need experience in to be good at but I am not sure what I would recommend starting with.
make the grill cloth for what, the kicks?
I always use a sealed box. Always........
