Overpriced Quote
So I was trying to get my subs installed at a local shop here in MD (well known because they have done a few celebrities cars). First off they had some busted the girl working the desk who didnt know anything about what i wanted done or how much it would cost. So she called somebody on the phone and they said that they would come up and take a look at what i had. I waited about 20min for the guy, then when he got there i told that i had 2 12' Subs, an Amp, a Capacitor, and an indash TV that i wanted installed and that i didnt have the wiring kit for the speakers. He told me that they charge $100 an hour for installation and that the TV was minimun of an hour. To get everything done he said that it would take about 4 hours = $400 for just the installation not even including the wiring. I laughed in his face and walked out. Does that seem overpriced to anybody?
first get that cap and find a river to throw it in.
as far as install yes seems very high - i assume u need the subsmounted and wired. << usually under 30$ here. wire kit buy your own dont let them supply a 50% price marked up lightning audio amp kit. a mono channel install depending on location wanted and if any custom fab work is wanted usually under 100$ (if its a common install). deck install (dvd) im not sure but id say 100$ tops. reg decks if u have new harness is usually under 50$ here. so keep looking

it depends on the shop, and what they do. If they charge the prices they do then hopefully they have the business to support it and do quality work to justify it. I thought the rates they charge at my shop at scottsdale was high but people pay it and they do a better job then most shops so its kind of a wash.
I quit dealing with customers and quotes years ago.

^^ or you could be paying that high price cause they know ull pay it sometimes has nothing to do with there quailty has to do with ripping u off cause joe black got his car done by them and now ur star struck and cant wait to drop that dime on an install thats no better then leroy down the street's done by a big box store.
OK, Not sure where you're located in MD, but the guys at Myer-Emco over in Fairfax, VA are top-notch - do NOT go to their Gaithersburg store (long story, but they f-ed up my car AND the install, and were blaming me the whole time). The guys in VA are awesome, make sure you talk to Gary Breeden, the store manager. Their prices are high, but reasonable, given the quality work they do. Not sure if they'll take your equipment and install it, usually they want to put stuff they sell in the car.
Or, PM me and we can work something out - I've done installs myself, they aren't that hard, they just take time.
Good luck,
-John
