does you loc have gain adjustments on it? try turning them down

It sounds to me like the negative speaker wire is grounding out to something when thevoltage steps up. I'd wager a couple bucks on tracing your speaker wire and findingsome damaged insulation.

How that involves the trunk being down, I have no idea...
Have you tried this like me a scott recommended. I have had the same problem with a speaker wire before.

well i found a temporary solution...works only if i use the ipod...i have an ipod going to my stock headunit so all i did was get a dual output for headphones coming out of the ipod...then i have 2 headphone males going into it and coming out as 2 pair of rca's. one goes to the input of the the fm transmitter and the other to the input of my amp...so that solved it...as for the problem, im not even fuggin with that anymore
