I figuredthat this wouls stir something up with some people, and dont get me wrong i was not trying to harp on anything but instead let u know more about the reality of it than most people like to believe or see on tv. As far as the jammer thing thats fine but in my state they are illegal to sell and possess so we would confiscate it and you would get two tickets instead of one...and its funny about the crown vic thing....in five years ive only had one car get away and it was a classic challenger with over 400hp under hood, and he got away from me then, but he couldnt get away from the radio, and he was spike stripped 30 miles later by highway patrol...im not gonna say my crown is a race car but i can stay at a steady 130-135 mph and most drivers are panicky unlke us and wreck within the first few miles..but frankly to even joke and laugh about running from the police isnt really funny and you put those officers lives at risk each time they do....because they might crash and get killed which happens unfortunetly too often..and then was that really worth it? Would it be fair if he was your brother or father? Would you want to go to prison for it? Also keep in mind you probably own a mustang, its probably unique in its own ways, and easy for that officer to remember, so dont be surprised if you can get away but dont be surprised if you get pulled over next week in town and he just arrests you on the spot....I just wanted to let some people know the truth and to be careful...trying to talk hard about how you can outrun the police puts no weight in my book, instead im pretty confident youve had a plenty of encounters with police and it sounds likeyou will have future ones. Be safe everybody

P.S. I only write about 1 or 2 tickets a month. Its typically someone that was going 15-30 mph OVER the speed limit i.e 80 in 55. and typically have priors and possibly an attitude or the lawyer thing. It takes alot for me to write a ticket because I dont believe they are the best answer to getting people to change behavior. I think I go alot further by treating them with respect and not acting like a robot handing out tickets all day for 10 over, plus I spend most my day looking for drug arrests as I am K-9 instead of looking for speeders. But If I stop people for speed I treat them with respect and if they are respectful back and typically say "sorry In know I was speeding" or something I always let them go. What good will it do for me to send you on your way pissed off with a hefty fine? Id rather you drive off thankful you didnt get one and glad you got stopped by a nice officer instead of a mean one. Plus I tend to give favoritism to mustang drivers

One other thing I forgot, the good lawyer deal..lol....I love this because alot people say it...Ok imagine this...You receive a ticket as a form of punishment for a unlawful behavior...the law imposes fines for smaller offenses such as traffic laws....alot of people dont speed as they dont want to pay the fines. Well if you get caught..even if you hire johnny cochran you are PAYING your attorney. Most Ive ever known dont work for free, but youd probably say hes your brother or cousin. Do you think we lose any sleep over wether you got convicted or not? lol. Yeah you can hire an attorney and typically get a reduced fine for a nonmoving viol. you pay a court cost and your attorney...odds are you paid more to get out of it then to take it like the rest of the working joes. Regardless you PAID...and we get two and half hours OVERTIME (time and half pay) for going to court like everybody likes to tell us (I'll see you in court) I love it because im usually there for about 15-20 minutes and i basically get about 5 hours extra pay on my next check. 5x16.25 hour=$81.25......So I say Thank You and my wife and kids thank you...the lawyer also thanks you for paying part of his lexus car note or his coke habit...So we all get to spend more thanks to you...so the economy also thanks you....And if you say you get out of it all together and without paying your attorney I say yeah..ok...Ive seen maybe less than 1% of cases get thrown out without a plea down or deal....and they are extreme cases....

Also I love how people say "my lawyer", "i have a good lawyer" they always talk about them like they are best friends and play golf together on the weekends. And then you come to court and he tells you how good of a shot you guys have and the cop was so wrong and hes your buddy..lol...and then when its over and you leave he comes over and usually talks with us and the prosecutor and starts talking about what an idiot for a client he has and jokes about them and laughs all the way to the bank. So next time you tell a cop you got a good lawyer and you wonder why they always grin and kinda smile....they (and the attorney) are saying thank you.

Officer discretion, you choose to engage in pursuit.

Also keep in mind you probably own a mustang, its probably unique in its own ways, and easy for that officer to remember, so dont be surprised if you can get away but dont be surprised if you get pulled over next week in town and he just arrests you on the spot
Mine's as stock appering as they come. There is only one White SN95 Mustang in this area though

I only write about 1 or 2 tickets a month.
You're nice, most aren't. Im a 21 year old white male, I get the shaft everytime. Doesn't matter how apoligetic or sorry I am, everytime no matter what car I am in. I have been pulled over once and not gotten a ticket and it was for no front plate and the cop that pulled me over was at this location where there is frequent street racing so as soon as he pulled me over and seen I had all my paperwork and seatbelts and wasn't drunk etc. He acted as if he had something else to do he was sitting there and all the sudden he goes, "Well you need to get home locate your plate and put it on, have a good night and he was back in his car and 100 feet infront of me before I had my ID back in my wallet.

My girlfriend gets pulled over religiously once a month, she has had one ticket issued... running a stop sign. NOTE: She has been in two at fault car accidents, countless speeding, many more failure to yields, changing multiple lanes etc... Cops are so sexist it's not even funny, so i take a swing at you guys whenever I can.

Well if you get caught..even if you hire johnny cochran you are PAYING your attorney
Even if I get $1000 speeding ticket, it's worth paying my lawyer to get out of it. As stated before im 21, white, male. I get pulled over for farting in my car and my insurance doubles. And for any of us (white males) that have any priors our next speeding ticket could be our license getting pulled+SR-22, it's worth it to run. Especially when it's ohh so easy.

I do hear ya though on the putting others life at risk, thats the one thing that I hate about doing it the most. Not that it ever makes it ok, but mine are at night, outside of town or on the major roads where pedestrians never are. Totally stupid regardless, i will give you that, but when im being stupid im smart about it [:'(]

Me and my lawyer aren't all good friends buddy buddy, but he is good at what he does and looks for a way to get things done. Thats about all I can say about the lawyer thing.

I never do the "I'll see you in court!" thing. Cause my hopes are always that you were forgetful and forgot to show up and the ticket gets dropped.

but he couldnt get away from the radio, and he was spike stripped 30 miles later by highway patrol
True the ol Motorola is the tricky bastard you really have to outrun.

I live in Iowa man, theres no spike strips and all that, im sure there is they never use them though, atleast they haven't with me.

Im not trying to out do you either brother, I find this more Laurel and Hardy more than anything...

...And because im faster. [sm=gears.gif]Nahhh saeeeeee, can't catch me coppa.

Well if their is one thing I have learned in this job it is quoted by Forest Gump "stupid is as stupid does".

Officer discretion, you choose to engage in pursuit.
You couldnt be more DEAD wrong. You are in the wrong and have no clue about the variables. When we see someone run we dont know if you are running because you just knocked over a convenience store or just kidnapped a baby. And if someone did kidnap your kid, sister, girlfriend, and we didnt pursue you would instead be having a cow and calling the police out in the media. We arent phsycic and the law doesnt expect us to be. If you run and that cop crashes and burns you will be charged not "discretion". And they will bring out no stops to catch someone that does that. To argue this is pointless as one day you will grow up "hopefully" and quit talking in online forums like you outrun the law on a daily basis. I see your type quite often "ALL MOUTH" no backbone. Your idea ofrunning is probably some cop turned around on you from a 1/4, 1/2 mile away and you gunned it and lost it. WOW. You probably hang out at the local Mcdees and tell that story over and over. If your running stock your not gonna outrun most cops, many a many far faster hotrods have been taken down by police interceptors, maybe not in mayberry where you live or maybe they have no pursuit policies.

I do hear ya though on the putting others life at risk, thats the one thing that I hate about doing it the most. Not that it ever makes it ok, but mine are at night, outside of town or on the major roads where pedestrians never are. Dude print this quote out and save it for when your thirty and reread it if your still alive or from a cell.....or from your moms basement.

I think we are a little off topic here.....I am a 19 year Veteran Paramedic and have seen all too many senseless deaths as a result of speeding. Having said that, I did have my car up to 120 MPH last week. It was great, but I won't be doing that again soon.

Stay safe all!

Wow! You guys got way off topic there! It's cool that you don't hand out tickets like crazy! I wish the police was like that here. I have gotten my fair share of tickets but it was my fault. After a while my driving habits changed.... well they had to unless I wanted to keep on paying my money to the city! lol! Forget that! I would rather buy something for my car with that money! I think running from the police just isnt worth it. I don't think I would ever do it because I would rather not risk it.

I have only been pulled over once in my stang, that was back in 94 when she was new and I do not know how I got away with a warning for 44 in a 30 when I was 19 ina new stang. yes sir, no sir, thankyou sir thanyou god!!!!

I too will recomend that you not drive too fast or dangerous but then again this is not a prius forum.... You can lecture these kids all you like but you know as well as me that it will have no effect until they see the light.

I have had my share of stupid stores from going to fast. I did also on two occasions know with out much doubt that the cop was pulling a u-turn behind me to catch up but I was not going to give him that chance. Both times I was only a couple of miles from my home where it was a short run to the garage to hide and while it was stupid it was a time of night and an area of town that has very little traffic to where I felt comfortable that I was only endangering myself and I did that everytime I was on my motorcycle(cbr600f2).

Now fast forward a couple of years to a strange and beautifully warm day in feb and me and my buddy decided to take the bikes for a short trip around town. Brent wasa much better rider then me as he had been on a bike for a number of years and taught me how to ride but today he had his girl on the back that would not let him show me up as he usually did. I knew this so I was egging him on and giving him hell but he was behaving himself that day. We decided to go ahead and start home as it was getting cool with the sun setting and one more time I revved my engine to see if he wanted to race but he and his girl just shook their heads so I pulled a wheelie and took off for broke. This was a well paved country road surrounded by nothing but corn fields and the corn was down so I could see the road was clear. There was a small turn, not sharp but I realized that I was not going to be able to take it at the 125mph that I had accelerated to so I started to get ont he brakes and downshift but halfway into the turn I realized that I had taken it all wrong. I had gone all the way into the left lane in an attempt to make the turn but the yellow line on the left started to drift away and before I knew it I was on the center line and going out fast and was not going to make the turn.

I remember getting on the brakes a little harder and trying to pull it a little further but then suddenly everthing went silent. In slow motion I saw the gauges and the windshield fall under and away from me. I remember that it seemed like it took 5 mins from the time I let go of the bike till I hit the ground. The fire dept measure a 100 ft skid mark to the wreck, and I stopped 115 feet from where it ended they estimated my speed around 85-90. I broke my right collar bone, and a few metacarpels in my right wrist(found out these are the slowest bone in the body to heal!) and neded reconstructive surgery to fix it(3 pins and a screw).

Now of course that all sucks right? now it sucks even worse when I tell you that because it was out of season for my bike I didn't have insurance on it. So that alonge with the new job I had left me with a wrecked bike, and $15k in medical bills. It took me 3 months incast from above my bicept to below my wrist and just about the time I got it off I got a letter saying that since I didn't have insurance, the state was going to revoke my licence for 90 days........

It took me 4 years to pay off the debt but I was lucky to walk away at all. While I was layed up in that cast all summer I realized that I was not where I wanted to be so I went back to school and finished my degree and got a real job/career. I have not sat on a bike since and have certainly not driven as fast since. I hope it doesn't take something like that to get everyone to realize the consequence of their decisions and how a couple of bad decisions in a row can add up exponentially to really screw you up.

actually it all depends on where you live. I live in daphne alabama, where there are more police per capita than anywhere in the country, and the police around here drive everywhere with their radars on.Also, something police won't tell you is that when then flip the switch on their radars if you suddenly change speeds than the radar cannot lock you in for another few seconds, as in slamming your brakes when then turn it on. And crown vic's are actually pretty damn fast.... and to the op, V1 is the best out there but for your money, whistler sells one for about $50 bucks that me and my brother both have(dad has a v1) and its not fancy at all but it does a great job. Radio shack carries it.

The 2 people arguing in this thread are so slanted to their side its crazy. Its very hard for me to believe that this cop would only issue 2 tickets a month yet try so hard to hide his radar. If you rarely issued tickets wouldn't it be a waste of time? More than likely you give 2 tickets a day for 6-10 over. My only ticket has been for 12 over on an empty U.S. road which run parallel to a very busy and dangerous interstate 1/2 mile away. In the 15 minutes we were stopped i seriously had 8 cars go by us. He gave me and my buddy both tickets for 72 in a 60 after we both stopped for him instantly and gave him no trouble. Cops like that seriously **** me off when there are much more important things to be doing. By your posts, that is the type of cop you are. Also, very few cops actually try to hide their radar in that way. I find that the only ones that do are state highway patrols.

And about evil kinevil here...running that crazily is just stupid and there is too much worth arguing.

P.S. Why do cops use VG2 'radar detector detectors' in areas that they are legal? I had one cop flip me the bird the other day when he was using one and saw my radar detector.

And about the actual topic...Ive never used high end detectors but Ive used a couple Cobras and they work good for their cheap cost. (~$125 MSRP or under $50 on Ebay)

you two are pulling up topics that have been dead for a month. No reason to stir the pot since it has already settled
