07 Mustang, one 13Ov.2 (12") running 2 ohms at 500 rms. At certain frequencies I hear rattles, but only when it's digging real low and not a clean hit. I already applied sound deadening material to the whole trunk lid (which helped A LOT). It seems like it might be the rear shelf behind the backseats in our stangs. Anyone know of a clean solution to this fix? I heard of someone putting some tissue between the shelf and the window itself and saying it fixed it.. but I can't see how that would fix it? I need some help here.

Rear shelf rattle is common in all cars.

In my wife's old bimmer when the rear deck started to rattle I actually stuffed some t-shirt under the upholstrey to help dampen vibrations.

If you only sound deadened you trunk lid, you still have around 3/4 of the trunk to do...


What amp are you running to that 13O?

 

Profile AP1000M running @ 2 ohms. Nothing to do about the rear deck? Yeah I got 3/4th of the trunk left.. but I don't think doing that is worth the effort.. as the trunk lid already eliminated a lot of the rattling.

 

you need to first isolate the rattle, and then you can figure out how to make it quiet. Play some music and go in and start pushing on parts until the rattle stops. Now that you know what is rattling you need to find a way to either tighten something up, or possibly put something inbetween the two pieces rattling, normally refered to as damping materials(not dampENing). Popular damping materials are items such as dynamat(2nd skin is better and cheaper but not as well knows), expanding foam, or evan the soft door-sealing foam strips. REcently somebody on here posted something about how they bought 1/2" thick, closed cell phone strips that are used for door-seals to go between the rear deck and the metal shelf that worked well. Maybe a quick search would turn it up.
