help designing a ported box for two 8" subs
ok guys tell me if im crazy, but i dont know anyone personally who has tried something like this some im wondering how it would sound.....
i am thinking about tossing a couple aura rpm 8" subs that i have laying around into the back of a geo metro hatchback just to add a little bottom end to the 4 4" speakers the car currently has. i dont expect anything crazy, but i want to get the most out of the box.
one idea i had is to build something where one sub is sealed and the other is ported to try and get the best of both designs.
if not i think i would like to try a slot style ported box (im sure my terminology isnt right, but w/e). i know they are not nearly as easy to design as a sealed enclosure so im looking for some help because i have no idea how to determine the port length, size, and design.
here's a rough idea of what i was thinking of, peep my leet ms paint skills.

whatcha guys think?

i used a 8" bandpass box in my 90 metro. i also built a sub floor and put 6x9s. only used the front 4". i hit 128db and it sounded good. looking back at it, i think it would have sounded better with a sealed box. it was a work car. drove 90 miles a day, with 2 people and all the extra weight and still got 43mpg.
^ see thats exactly what im shooting for. this car's gonna get beaten on, used for work, etc.... i thought of the downfiring method because it would keep the speakers safe. after playing in paint a little i came up with putting the subs on a 45 deg angle to let more sound out (maybe?!?) but still be somewhat protected. i could shrink the back of the box on the sealed side cause it requires less airspace and that would let me do a recessed mount with the amp so the systems footprint was no larger than the box itself.
thoughts?
