comp/amp help
so i went into a car audio place today and pretty much left not knowing what to think. i felt like the guy behind the counter was trying to play me, but then again i could have totaly messed up. here's what i need help with (btw i have a 2006 mustang)
1. i have ts-d1720c pioneer comps and i knew that they were a different size than what my car takes, but i was under the impression that they can be mounted on a ring of wood to make the them fit...he said that it is a totally different shape all together and impractical to install.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...&om_keycode=93
2. next i have the txa-1502 amp from cadence to power the comps, he said that the amp couldn't be used to power comps because of the OHM rating/and the number of channels (2 for comps, 4 for subs i think he said i'm not sure though) and that it can only power subs...i don't know much about ohms/wattage etc, but i had asked around online and i was told it would work. also it said that it would overpower the comps because the max for comps is 260watts, but i was also under the impression that the amp could go a little bit over the max wattage and not damage the equipment.
http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductC...&idproduct=381
3. lastly he did a poor job of recommending me an amp (or 2) to power my two Kicker CVR 10" subs which i can't find the specs for online but it says 2 or 4 ohm with 800 peak and 400 rms in the hand book so if anyone could please recommend me something that will either power both or two amps to power each one seperatly that would be fantastic. also they are going to be put in a sealed box if that means anything.
yes i'm a newbie to car audio and probably should have done more research before buying, but i felt like i knew enough and when i talked to the guy he seemed like he was just trying to rip me off etc, he also gave me about a 500 dollar quote for install of subs,amps,h/u and comps (i have my own box) which seemed incredibly high but then again i am new to this game...if anyone can help me please respond or send me a pm!
thanks

I love you.
You obviously did a lot of research to get that equipment. Those comps are great if you buy them for around $100 online and the amp is nearly impossible to beat for the money.
Even though you are a noob at least you didn't run to best buy and buy everything they told you. Don't be hard on yourself. You know more then the tech did.
First, Those comps will fit great in the original 6x8 location.Simply buy a small sheet of 1/4 mdf or plywood and use your tracing skills from elementary school to make a template of the 6x8 woofer. Mark and drill the holes in the template according to location on the 6x8. Now all you have to do is cut out a hole in the template you made the size of the woofer cutout. If you are putting the tweets in the speaker location offset the speaker otherwise but put the hole in the middle.
Second, that amp is nearly perfect for those comps. I would have preferred the txa-3002 for additional headroom but it should be more then adequate. Pay no attention to max wattage of anything. RMS ratings are the only ratings that matter. I generally send 1-2 times the RMS rating of wattage to my speakers. (i'm powerering my CDT HD-62cf's with 300 watts RMS per channel)
Third, If you want a recommendation on the amp for those subs I will need some info. I need to know the VC configuration, single 4 ohm, DVC 4 ohm etc. If you are having problems finding out this info get on the kicker website and find you speakers for me and link them. Another cadence amp could be a great match to those subs.
That is a ton of money for installation. I think you would be suprised at how easy this is to do yourself. A number of people on this forum have been through a ton of installs and are more then willing to help.

ahhah wow huge sigh of relief, words cannot express how happy i am ha,
the kicker website runs on flash so the furthest of a link i can get is http://www.kicker.com/06/kicker_home.html from there you have to click 'car audio products' on the left hand toolbar, then 'subwoofers' and pick compVR from the list then in the information listing there is another tool bar, click 'specifications' then within that click 'Comp 10' that's the best i can do about the website, sorry...anyways i think i may end up doing install myself because if every shop is going to act like everything i bought won't work then i may end up being forced into doing it myself anways....once again thanks so much for the answers
one last note, i want to get an amp(s) for my two subs that totals to be at the most 250 if possible, of course less is always better but i can afford about that much at the moment

what shop did you go to? a local mom-and-pop or a big box? I am guessing a big box since they can't imagine mounting a 6.5 there. I show how to make the baffle on my trucks cardomain page, it is as easy as tracing the factory 5 x 7 and then tracing the grill from your 6.5 on top of it. You can also mount an enclosure to it if you want, I show how I did on mine.
These guys also have no idea about power ratings. I never pay any attention to them as over the years I have put small amps on big speakers, big amps on small speakers, and as long as you keep the signal clean they will play fine. Do pay close attention to the impedence recomendations on the amp and speakers, but just send them as much clean power as you can.

Great!
I don't know what the resistance of your speakers is based on the website.
Could you look at the back of the speaker and tell me what number it says next to each one of places where you connect wires.
DVC 4 ohm or 2 ohm will make a huge difference on what amp to get.
i don't know if i would have considered it a big box, but the place is a chain with 7 or 8 scattered around the charlotte area, the name is freeman's audio, anyways it says 4ohm on the back of the speakers so i can only guess that is the correct match up

this website seemed to have more info about the ohms etc.

With $250 get yourself a 1 ohm stable monoblock something like this...

thanks a lot man, i'm a little confused however about 2 things, the first is that the price of that amp is only 150 (you said 250 so i just want to check that it is the correct amp) also do i need to buy just one of those amps to power both amps, or one for each sub?
edit:
also looking around i found this link http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ad.php?t=43044
where they were talking about a sub similair to the one u recommended me (i think ha)
http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductC...&idproduct=478
idk which is better (or if this amp can even be used with my subs), all i know is that one is fairly cheaper than the other, anyways i still don't know if i need to buy 1 or 2 to power both subs, but thanks for the help so far

You can use one of those amps to power both subs. That is why it was important to get the resistance (The ohm rating) of the speakers for me.
That cadence amp is inexpensive, powerfull, reliable, and from a great company. DIYMA gets a lot of great info from the guys at cadence and when I have called them about availability they have always been very helpful.
That other amp is nice too, but I always prefer mine to match if available.
