Default Help with broken head unit (2002 Mach 1000)

Hey guys, this is my first post here, but if you think I'm leeching, don't worry - I'm going to start contributing to what looks like an awesome community that I should have joined ages ago.

I've got a 2002 Mustang GT that I bought second hand from a private owner back in January, with a Mach 1000 audio system, and it seems like the audio head unit is broken. From what I can tell (and believe me, I'm no expert), the system thinks that CD 3 has been ejected, but in fact all six CDs are still in the machine. The slot stays open, and whenever I try to play music or eject a CD, it tries to perform the function and then fails.

This isn't the first time the head unit's failed. In the past, tapping the unit or sticking something into the slot (advice I found while lurking on these forums) has worked perfectly, but this time nothing I do seems to fix it.

I'm not against replacing the unit - in fact, I just got an iPhone, and I would love a way to play that over my Mach 1000 system, but I'm not sure how. What can you recommend?

As an additional note, I still have the six CDs in the unit, and I'd like to save them if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Your not the first to have 6 of the favorite cds lost bc of the 6 disc changer failed. Replace the headunit! All you need to intergate the factory mach system is the metra 70-5521 wire harness. Then you can listen to your music on your ipod throught the radio besides the crappy fm transmitters.

Getting your cds back you can try to ripe the radio apart and you may save a couple of the cds without scatching them to badly.

when he says replace the unit he means with something with something other then another indash changer. Ford has never been able to polish the loading/unloading mechanisms.

Thanks for the help. I'll see what options are available for replacing the head unit.

would this work for an '02 GT? it says its only for an '03-up vehicle?

if it works for our year, im ordering one right now! ... i imagine a mach 460 head unit connections are about the same as the 1000 head unit, am i wrong?

the 02 uses a different hrns, the 70-1770 and I can't remember the other for sure but I think it is FDO3B if you want to use subwoofer output on a deck

metra harness 70-5519 is the amp intergation harness for 01-03. 2004 they started to use the the new ford harness looks different but intergates the amps the same.
