Need help connecting my shakers to the d3.
Hey guys i got the avic d3. I have my aftermarkey subwoofer connected to the subwoofer output on the avic d3 but thats where the installers originally placed the rca's for the stock door subs. so now i dont have any idea how to get them to work. should i get two rca splitters and split the aftermarket subs and stock subs in the subwoofer output or should i put the stock subwoofer rca's in a different input?? sorry its so confusing but someone who installed the d3 in the s197 would prob know.
try hooking the factory woofers up to another rca output and see how it sounds. The factory amp should cross over the signal but you will not have the tuning ability that you will have with the aftermarket sub on the sub output. If it doesn't sound right then you will be fine splitting the signal with the correct splitters.
by not sounding right you didn't mean that it had LESS bass with the factory sub and the aftermarket sub do you? By chance does your amp have a phasing switch normally labeled 0/180? If the two sets of subs are out of phase they will cancel each other out and actually make less bass.
what it does in the simplest of terms is make the speaker work backwards. When it is supposed to be moving forward, it will then move backwards. sometimes the phasing will make a speaker sound better or worse depending on the phase it moves but it will not effect the overall sound of the music, unless there is another sub hooked up in the opposit phase. When you have subs that are playing out of phase everytime one speaker moves an inch forward, the other moves the exact same amount backwards. If you have two perfectly matched subs, and two matched amps it will cancel each other out to the point that you could see the subs moving all over the place but no sound will come out of them. In your case when you have two different types and sized of subs, playing from two different amps will cause some of the signals to be canceled out while others may still play resulting in a "funny" sounding system. Hook up your system with the factory subs off of the front or rear outputs again and then try flippin that switch on the amp. If it was out of phase you will be immediatly slammed with bass when the speakers are in phase.....
