I believe all S197 alternators are 130 amps and about 80 at idle. I had a quote for $330 to rebuild it to 250 amps, which was recomended for my stereo (just look around or just ask your local alternator shop what you need by having your total RMS wattage handy).

Not sure if im going to rebuild or buy new one yet. A Rebuild will be cheaper but need to send my alternator.

With my current set up, Im not getting any dimming or any other charging problems even when I max out my volume for long periods of time.

I think ttocs is on to something. Adding extra batteries to the stock alternator is baaad. Genious he is.

Peace

genious?

Do you have the batteries isolated since they are not a matching pair? I would either install a HO alt or take one of the batteries out as you are probably hurting the factory alt.

Is that a "supplimental" battery? I can't say that I understand that idea much. Have you ever put one good battery in your tv's remote along with one that was really really dead? All you end up with in a week is 2 really really dead batteries because the dead one will actually help to kill the good one. Now those batteries are mounted in series where as this "supplimental" battery is mounted in parallel and since they are not isolated they are always connected? So What happens to the charge in the good battery(your new kenetic) when you connect it to the older, larger battery? Any excess current will go from the one with the larger charge to the other battery and "balance" each other out. With two different batteries that have completely different charging and discharging rates I would think that one battery will actually become a load on the other and hurt the over all idea. Your amps can pull some juice at full volume if you have them loaded down with a low impedence but you should not be having power problems like you described above.

Sounds like a good set up. alittle like my set up. I have

Alpine 505 headunit with Blackbird Nav.,XM,HD.
Alpine 7" in the headrests.
Alpine Type X comps. in the doors and rear deck.
Pioneer permeer slim subs in the doors.
1 JL 12" W6 in the turnk that dose not take up any trunk space.
Alpine PDX 4.100 AMP for the highs.
Alpine PDX 2.300 for the 2 door subs.
Alpine PDX 1.600 for the trunk sub.

The doors, rear deck and trunk have all been dynamatted.

I did the install not long after i bought the car so the big battery on had like 1200 miles on it
so both battery's are new ... or were at the time.... At the time of the install i was going to buy a power cap but I was told the battery was a better way to go....
