Im lookin into buyin new speakers for my 67 coupe and cant decide what 6x9's to buy, im kinda torn between rockford fosgate and cerwin vega. Im lookin for max power and reasonable price(under $150). Any suggestions?</P>

 

I have a favorable opinion regarding Cerwin Vega's. I listen to themfor my home surround sound system and they are in my 69 Stang and my Dodge Ram truck. I have a pair of 6x9's inthe truck and stang and i get compliments on them all the time. My friends, and I, really appreciate the sharp, crisp sound from the 3 way speakers. I recently put in a pair of Kenwood speakers in my wife's car (they were cheaper than then CV's) and it doesnt sound anything like my truck or car. Put down a vote for CV's!

 

both of those brands make some kick *** speakers. are you running an amp? what some people don't know about speakers is that too little power is often the more dangerous than too much. when the waveform "clips" the crossover "sees" the signal as mostly high frequency stuff, despite the fact that it may be a heavy bass signal. it then sends that over to the tweeter which promtly dies. that's why bi-amp'ed setups are nice. don't judge durability by the max power rating as its not a standardized way of measuring power handling - any given manufacturer will tweak it to please the audience they are trying to advertise to. let your ears be the judge and go with the one which sounds the best to YOU.</P>

 

distortion kills. low power + high volume = distortion. high power + low volume = same sound pressure level, less distortion.

 

im gonna get an amp eventually, but for now im just running on the original stereo that has been refurbished to an 88 watt RMS, 4 ohm. This will work for a while right</P>

 

88rms - i assume 22rms into each channel. really it's plenty of power unless you listen to your music loud or you're into rap/hip hop then you'll need more because of the bass content. if you hear it distort, back off the volume. once you get your amp have at it.

 

I think im goin with the CV HED 1693 (6x9), and the HED 162 (6 1/2, for kickpanels)... sound good?</P>

it'll probably rock, you'll be very happy. if you haven't tried em out thengive the speakers a listen to before you buy and don't be reluctant to try other brands - you may be surprised.</P>

 

Ive ordered them now, if i dont like em ill just sell em on ebay...they were a helluva lot cheaper online...i got both pairs for the same price i would have paid for rockford fosgate 6x9's. we'll just have to see how they do.

Everyone has given rock solid adive about sysems there very hard to map out unit to amp or maybe twin amps twin amp theory you can get them with much less distortion even power. Do you own a coupe? If you do good old crutchfield sells a generic overhead consoel for the rear that hold 2 6" speakers I mention this because I have a Blau Unit Twin Blau amps 2 3 way rockfords in the overhead and all my stocks replaced with 2 wayrockfords.
