Alarm/Remote Start
Hey 'stangers,
I've been searching about and have decided, against others' better judgements, to work on an alarm/remote starter combo next month. I do have a stick, and although I *ALWAYS* park it in neutral, I want to ensure that it cannot start without the vehicle in neutral. HOWEVER, I also have read a LOT about the bypass procedure making your vehicle even less secure due to PATS or whatnot? I'm still trying to research that one.
Anyhow, this is just a cry for help on trying to figure out exactly what I need to get to ensure that my vehicle will not be any less secure. but will remote start safely. Summer is coming, and with a black 'stang, and black leather, I know I'll be frying unless I get this working. =P
Thanks in advance!

I just put a new compustar alarm in my truck which is a manual and I have been happy with it. My only complaint was that after installin DEI products for over 10 yrs that I was not familiar with this system but that is not thier fault. It was not cheap even with me doing the install but it is a great system.
How much do you want to spend? 1-way, 2-way?

If you are asking on what to get, then I have two suggestions for you. Or, if you were just stating that you were getting this, here is my two cents.
I will be putting the Viper 5701 or 5901 in my stang.I have been doing research since last summer on these. I just haven't bought one yet because I was modifying other things first.
Both of these models are security/remote Start. These are the best of the best for remote start for a manual. I drive manual too. The reason I say they are the best is this:
The system will first check to see if the car is in neutral, then it also checks to make sure the e-brake is on. After you turn the car off and take the key out. It still runs for 30 seconds or a minute or something. This way, if none of these are in the right place, it will not remote start, saving you from slamming into your garage, car in front of yours, brick wall, etc.
And also the remotes are bad ***! The Viper 5901 has an LCD screen that tells you everything you would want to know. The remote also reaches a mile away. The 5701 remote is 1/2 mile.
The Viper 5901 is $649

Best Buy will install these for free if you purchase them there.

for that price I would recomend compustar. I installed dei for almost 15 yrs and compustars remotes and programming options are a little better with the spread spectrum.
Anyplace that sells alarms will install them for free.

I'm really liking the way that the Viper 5901 sounds. The only thing I think I would be annoyed with is that the remote looks pretty large. Would it be like carrying another iPhone around in my other pocket? lol!
And no, ttocs, not everywhere will install them for free. I have looked into this at 3 custom sound shops here in Georgia, and none of them had free install. I can tell by your other posts in this forum that you think you know everything, but you are wrong on this.
Welcome to the forum, you make friends fast.
Do you just shop at best bye alot or do you work there too?
I had so many problems with the 5701 le that I got fed up and demanded it be removed and the compustar put in. Since then, I had no problems - it works with manual, makes sure the ebrakes on, range is excellent and prepping is simple. It also has a much better lcd than any other combo ive seen. The only thing better about the 5701 le was a kooler arm/disarming sound.
thats funny as I like the sound of the compustar. I have been using a whistle to call my dog that is almost identicle to the disarm sound for almost 4 yrs. Now when I disarm my car, my dog comes as well.....
I don't think that was an option I read in the pamphlet.....
