Default GPS Antenna Location

I have my D3 GPS antenna currently mounted on the rear shelf (back window). This Spring I am planning on getting the Astra-Hammond aluminum rear louvers and I think they will probably block my signal. So I am going to have to relocate the antenna.

I heard that some people installed it above the radio inside the radio compartment, under the dash.

For those that have done that, do you get good signal strength?

I do not want to mount it on top of the dash.

why not run it to our trunk and mount it on the trunk lid. I'm doing mine today and going to do that, I'll post a pic when done.

Not an option, I just don't want it on the exterior.

then I think your gonna have to go for your dash. Also, i just did my install, ended up putting it inside where yours propbably is now. The cord wasnt long enough to route it really clean and be on the rear lid.

You can run the cable up in your head liner, then have it follow the cable down to your rear veiw mirror (if yours has the compass and autodim like mine) and use some good quality doublesided tape to the back of the mirror.

Hmmm, back of the mirror, haven't thought of that. Wonder if it would be noticeable? I'll have to check it out.

yeah, I dont think it would be too noticable. mine has a small gps antena, and I doubt it would be noticable at all, its behinde the tinted pony there anyway, so cant really see if from outside, and inside its behinde somehting, think it would be pretty stealth.

try on the front of the car. I put my sirius antenna up on the cowling by the windshield wipers. It is on the black plastic, but the magnet sticks to the metal below it. Being black on black I hardly notice it when I get in and out.

Damn, another option. How did you run the wiring?

hardest part was going through the firewall but there is a large grommet on the drivers side that I was able to poke it through.
