Default S197 Head Unit Install

I know with most after market H/U we need to put a 5V regulator in. I did that with my current Alpine.

This H/U however has 4V pre-outs, any idea how this would affect the sound if I got this one and installed it?

5 volt regulator and preout voltage are not related to eachother

I thought I put the 5V reg on the preout to keep it from popping.

I know i did put it on something and it stopped the pop

You can put a 1k ohm resistor on the amp turn on

do i have to? Correct me if I'm wrong, I want the head unit preout voltage to match the amp input voltage right? So if the head unit preout is 4V do I need to do anything or is it ok being lower?

The higher the pre out voltage the more efficient/better sound you will have. The gain on the amp is adjustable to match the headunit.

you are confusing the preamp output voltage and the voltage required on the remote turn on wire for the oem amp. They are 100% different things. 5 volt regulator on the turn on line is all that is required

We have noticed that the 5V output Ford uses is not enough to turn on some amps.
