Hey all. I have an 05 mustang with a Shaker 500 system and I have just replaced the stereo head unit. Now I want to replace the speakers. How do I access the door speakers? Does the interior door molding need to be removed? If so how do you remove it and does it require any special tools? Thank you in advance for any help provided.

 

i have not went as far to remove the whole door panel..... YET. but the trim ring around the sub just pops off with a small pry bar or screw driver! looks to me that the sub must come out first then the door panel

What are you going to replace the stock 8in subs with?? do you know if it is sealed or just free air?

i want to have alittle more basse but i dont want to pull all the wiring and amps for the 500 out

but if i could just replace the 8s and get better basse i would do it in a blink!!!

 

I tried removing the sub first but when you remove the 8 screws holding each on in, they don't just come out. Something is still holding them. I tried to lightly pry at them but stopped in fear of breaking or damaging the car so I came here to ask. I plan on ditching the door subs. I have never been a fan of door subs and they just make the doors rattle. I’m going to install Polk component speakers in each door and use the open sub space for the crossovers. I’m going to replace the rear speakers with Polks, a Scoshe sub in the trunk and power it all with a 5 channel amp. First things first though and that is that I wanted to find out how to access the front and rear speakers. I have always done my own stereo work but getting to the speakers in this car is confusing me and since its an 05 Saleen I am trying to be overly cautious so as not to damage the car in the process.

I'm thinking you've gotten all the info you need on your '05 Stang stereo..but if not let me know. I completely replaced all the components of mine a few months ago. It's pretty normal stuff if you replace the head unit.
