well just got off the phone with a local car stereo shop...he tells me that anything around $100 fo component system will be crap (relative to other component systems) and that for that prie range i should just get a good 2 way coaxial speaker.

he recommended the Boston Acoustics SC85. says that for $100 components i wont be able to hear the diff b/w those and a good coaxial speaker.

back to being lost ahah. ill need to ask around some other shops see if they say the same.

I think for you, your best bet is to go to an audio dealer or best buy, etc.. and actually hear before you buy. One thing that tech is right about is there is alot of junk for $100.00 out there. There are also steals for $100.00 every now and again.

Without you knowing which is which, and your budget, I definitely would want to hear em before I bought em.

As far as your 5x7's and tweeters, mine are being mounted together. So there are no visible tweeters. I'd imagine you could do the same with your model.

i actually learned alot in the past day. im going with the Boston Acoustic SC85's. they are 5x7 coax speakers and i have an old amp im hoping to power them with for the doors. and leave the stockers in the back for filler sound for now.

those things in the room mounted on a hollow wall sounded better and louder than my HU and stock speakers with a 10" JL sub lol

so when they are in a small car like ours and in a door...they should sound reaaaaal nice.

will do. im stopping by again today to show him the amp to make sure it will work for me.

it's a 400W 2 channel amp and i believe it has a crossover built in. its an old RF punch 400S amp. if all goes well, ill order them this week, mount the amp bw the stockers under the rear deck and call it a day.

then possibly down the road replace the rears.

how are those? i can do my setup for $100 for the front 2 speakers with the RF amp i have (guy looked it over and it does indeed have internal crossover)

i could actually setup all 4 speakers off this amp, but i wont have the ability to fade front to back. i dont care about that anyways. im not needing to fine tune it that much if im just looking for a cheap upgrade. im going to wire it up then have him dial it in after.

Just so you know, a 6"x8" speaker will mount directly into a 5"x7" speaker's hole. The 2" difference is in the cone, not the mounting rim. That'll open up your selection alittle bit more, and I personally would go for 6"x8" over a 5"x7".

I'm buying 2 sets of 6.75" Pioneers for my current project. Take a look. If they sound good, I'll consider putting the 6"x8" ones in my Mustang, or perferably the 6"x9" if I can get an adapter.

yea, I know the 6x8's will fit as well. I've been hearing that the Pioneers, Kenwoods, Rockfords are not as good anymore due to them going with quantity not quality.

Im starting to see this as I would assume that the speakers that can only be bought in audio shops are generally better. You can buy Pioneer stuff in Walmart etc but cant buy Herts, Boston Acoustic etc.

let me know how you make out with those Pioneers. Maybe I'll hold off buying them till i get more information

well placed the order last night for the Boston Acoustic SC85's. i was pumped, i found them for $95 a pair shipped. every plce like crutchfield, amazon, bestbuy etc are easily $100+

scored some "cheap amp kit" speaker wire for free. audio guy gets all these lower end amp kits with wiring etc and barely uses it bc he uses better stuff on custom installs, so for my porpose it will work just fine.

waiting for speakers to come in, then to mount/wire amp and call it a day. i need to rewire my RCA's on opposite side of power wire (didn't know this before) since i was told that's what can cause RPM engine noise interferance in the speakers.
