Default Need help with an amp

Ok so I've got great Polk speakers that I love in my Mustang, but no sub yet. A friend called me tonight though asking if I want to buy an almost new sub of his and it's a really good deal, he really needs the money. I don't know a whole lot about sound systems and all that and it was basically gibberish to me so I had him talk to a friend of mine that's pretty good with that stuff.

He told me it sounds like a good one, what I do remember is that it's about a $500 sealed sub and you can run it up to 2000W. I need to get an amp though, and don't have much money to spend on it and am pretty clueless on what I need to get. My friend told me I want 2 ohm but that's about all he told me, not a lot of help, then he basically just told me to look around and I can find one for a decent price and mentioned that I could at least get one that's good enough for now off eBay if nothing else.

So basically I guess I'm asking you to either school me on amps or maybe recommend some pretty cheap ones that sound like they would be good for me. The sub is $200 but he said I could pay him after my next paycheck if I need to, I've got my last payment for this year's Redskins tickets coming up Tuesday so that'll hit me for about $500. I'd like to spend less than like $150 or $200 on the amp, if I could spend less than $100 that would be awesome but again I'm pretty clueless on this so you might be laughing at me right now for even saying that lol. I guess worst case I could just go ahead and take the deal on the sub and just wait a little bit to get an amp and put it all in, but I'd hate to have to wait once I have the sub haha. So even if there's something you think would be worth it just for temporary that would work too.

Thanks guys.

There's different RF subs. Also what size is it, 10",12". etc? You could buy a Rockford Fosgate T1 12" for $350.00 brand new...

Or buy the next lvl down, the P3 and the box comes with it for only $300.00, leaving you that $200 to put towards an amp.

I really don't think I'd buy it if I were you, not when you can get a new T1 and a box on ebay or w/e for the same $500.00.

Edit: Sorry I read that wrong lol....For $200.00 with the box it should be a deal, but again depends what model sub. See if you can find out what series it is. If it's "Prime" I wouldn't waste the money. They sell for like $60.00-$80.00....P3 or T1 grab it and run like hell lol.

If it's a P3+ the enclosure it's a great deal if there's nothing wrong with it. Take it and run lol. Oh and what size is it? I have two 12" P3's in mine and love them. A decent amp on it will do it justice for sure.

Pretty sure he said 12"

I was doing other things when he called me but he wanted to call instead of texting cause he was driving so I don't remember real well lol, I'll see it tonight at flowboarding though.

But yea, pretty sure I'm gonna get it, any suggestions on amps though?

Well if you're gonna see 'em the P3's say P3 right on the cone.

As far as an amp, for what you wanna spend I'd watch some mono amps on ebay to try and get a deal. Like these-

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ROCKFORD-FOS...item439ef5de02

Or a 500w if the cash is tight. (all you really need for one anyways as long as it's a good brand) I probably wouldn't go under 500w with it though.

Or wherever on the internet, just look for some deals. Craigslist too.

Just don't get fooled into buying some crappy amp because it says 12000w on it. Stick with decent brands and you'll be ok. RF/Phoenix Gold/JL/Pioneer/Kenwood/etc.. You get what you pay for with amps for sure. But there are good deals on good amps, you just gotta find 'em lol.

Alright thanks for the help. If $250 is a good deal on an amp I think I might just go with taking the deal on the sub and waiting a little bit on the amp even though I'm gonna be anxious as hell haha.

If you want a budget amp to give you 500 watts @ 2 ohms, this one would work out decently: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._MRP-M500.aspx

Edit: This is another decent sub amp: http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductC...&idproduct=380
