Shaker 500: 2 x 250 watts peak or RMS?
Hi,
I have a question regarding the stock shaker 500 system (year 2007).
It consists of two amplifiers, located left hand side from the pedals (driver side). Does anybody now if the system has 250 Watts each and if so, is it RMS or peak power and on what ohm (2 or 4)?
I tried already to get that information but it seems nobody knows more about it.
Maybe you guys know what the amps are powering? Are just the 8" Door subs powered (1 amp for each 8" sub) or does the amps power the subs and the stock speakers.
The speaker power is following:
Front door speaker: 2 x 50 or 60 watts @ 4 Ohm
Front door subs 8": 2 x 120 watts @ 1.2 Ohm. (Each subs has 2x60 watts,
seems two coils in it)
Rear speaker: 2 x 25 watts @ 4 Ohm
All stuff made in China or Mexico.
I am going to replace the 8" stock subs with some small 8" Pioneer
TS-SW841D. My concern is that the stock amp is to weak to drive them right.
The Pioneer's have 50-120 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohm.

The Shaker is 500 watts PEAK. IIRC the pair of ICs used per 8" subwoofer amplifier is 40x2 max.
I wouldn't use those weak stock amplifiers to power anything aftermarket. Also, I am afraid the stock amplifiers can not be bridged either due to the fact that each stereo IC is technically bridged in each amplifier to run the DVC subs.
This is the stock subwoofer amplifier that you are working with:
I have a pic of the IC somewhere and will post it as soon as I find it.
EDIT: The IC is a TDA8566
My memory is better than I thought it was.

I guess you are right and it confirms my concerns.
Anyway, I will hook the speakers up and see what the subs do. Can I damage anything if the amps are to weak?
Finally I have to go the only sound way and install one (or two) good amps and a real sub in the trunk.
My idear so far is a 'Helix W10' 10" Sub with 300 watts RMS and the PDX-5 (5 channel amp with 1x 300 watts and 4 x 75 watts) from Alpine.
- The 1x 300 watts (one channel) is for the 10" Sub
- 2 channels bridged (150 watts) for the 8" Sub (maybe that is still to less...)
- 2 channels for the front speaker (Helix mid range speaker with seperate
tweeter)
- Hope I can run the 25 Watt rear speaker (Pioneer) with the stock unit. If
not they have to keep silent
