New Speaker Setup

New Speaker Setup
Best Buy actually carries some decent car audio. So this weekend I bought some 5x7 Polk Audio DXI570 Coaxials, and 6 1/2 Polk Audio DXI650 Coaxials to put in the sub enclosure in the door which will be powered by a Polk Audio PA660 4 channel amp. Has anyone done this? Is the sound crisp?....I was wondering how it would sound since the speakers on both doors would be so close together....and yes I am going to have bass, a 12" RE Audio SE in the trunk.

can you explain your post please ttocs? I'm not asking if the speakers are decent quality, I know they are, thats why i purchased them...I'm simply asking if anyone has had this setup in their mustang and have any input on having 2 coaxial speakers in each door.....anyones opinion would matter to me who has this same setup...hence the reason i started this topic

Don't see the reasoning in removing an 8" sub and replacing with a 6.5" coaxial personally. One coaxial or component setup in each door is plenty especially amped. I can't even turn mine up alot without fading it to the rears because it's just too damn loud with one set of components in each door.

That is a LOT of high end up front. With the horrific reflection off the dash from the 6x8 location and the reflection from the console from the 8" location, I think you are just begging for a sonic nightmare.
I'd suggest trying set of components with the 6.5 in the 8" location and fabricating a mounting plate for the tweeter in the stock 6x8 location before I would EVER suggest running dual coaxials up front. But that is just me.

thanks for the input guys....well that is true it would be pretty loud, then again i play my music LOUD...before my stang I had a silverado crew cab with a set of components in each door plus kick panels in the front on each side with components as well, along with the back coaxials in the door....it sounded perfect...of course that was in a truck with much more space for the sound to travel....and oldsch00lf00l i was thinking about getting just one set of components for each side with the midbass in the 8" location and tweeters in the 6x8 location but then I would have to find a spot for the crossovers which is a pain....idk i think i may just try the coaxials for now, but again if anyone has already done this I would still like feedback on it...thanks

I'd cheat and mount the passive crossovers in the driver's side kick where the Shaker 500 amplifiers are and use existing wiring from there to the doors. There is also plenty of space inside of the door to mount them, but I usually don't advocate that either. That sudden stop when the door is slammed shut has a tendency to make components pop off of some passive crossovers. The Alpine SPX Pros were famous for that when mounting their passives in the doors.

Why not keep the 8's and go with a 5x7 component with tweeter mounted in the same 6x8 location on a bracket? Maybe down the road you come across a cheap, used amp to drive the 8's. You'd get a much richer sound going that route.

yea the crossovers in the door i dont think would give me problems but the problem i dont want to run into is putting stuff in my door that wasnt meant to be aka tearing it up...but i dont want to keep the 8's because im going to have a 12" RE audio SE in the trunk and that sub is one of the craziest and loudest 12" subs I have ever heard....its meant to be tuned at around 34hz...thats all the bass I will need

All keeping the Shaker 500 8" subwoofers will do is cause you headaches with frequency cancellation. I've never been able to confirm this myself with an actual number, but I was told by several installers that the Ford/Mazda factory subwoofers use a non-standard phasing alignment that causes cancellation with regular subwoofers. Most aftermarket subwoofers only allow for 0 or 180 degrees of phasing whereas the stock phasing is somewhere between 0 and 180 degrees.
I tried running my stock Shaker 500 subwoofers with my 13w6v2 and I experienced cancellation in the 50 to 80 Hz range. I was supposed to borrow a friend's amplifier that was infinitely adjustable from 0 to 180 degrees, but I had already scrapped my Shaker 500 subs by the time he dropped off his amplifier for me to test.
