Ive got an $80 cobra one and it is awesome! Its not so great in the city, but on the highway it goes off with way more than enough time to slow down if your speeding and get over to the slow lane.
But just cause you have one doesn't mean your invincible or anything. I still dont go that much over the speed limit anyways. Its just a great means of insurance. Plus if it saves you from one ticket then it pretty much just payed for itself.

Escort and Valentine 1 are the only 2 that are worth it.

I have a Cobra that was $120 or so on sale at Best buy a few years back, it has save my butt more than once.

One this to remember though, if you are at the front of the pack no threat detector will save you from a well aimed "instant on" handheld unit--avoid being out there alone on unfamiliar roads...

I've got a Whistler that I like, its saved me from a couple speed traps on the highway. I still don't trust it completely though

I put a whistler pro 3450, which is a remote radar detector, and mounted its display in the clock housing. After living in phoenix which now has the largest photo radar system in the nation I do not use it anymore as it will not save you from those. I got it really because I found a good deal on it, and it worked so well in that location. The performance is ok but there are better out there.

my valentine one picks up instant on from over a mile away when another car in front is hit on an almost 100% basis. cobras a junk, i've watched people with cobras go by me and not pick up a OLD x band radar till easily 4 times closer than my valentine. the valentine can even pick up a start up sequences from certain radar systems. when it comes to radar detectors, if your going to get one, do it once and do it right. valentine one also have a upgrade plan, when any new improvements come out u can send ur's in for a upgrade. along with the "bogey counter" and directional arrows. not much else can compare

as he said if you are the first one hit, you are hit. If you are lucky enough to be back in the pack, then you are lucky but if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time all it will do is tell you when you are getting a ticket. V1's are nice but they do not account for photo either and unfortunatly are a few years behind the game on that point besides being well overdue for a remodel of how they look.

K-40s and a couple of others are still better, with the laser diffuser it is hard to say no.

yeah your right it doesn't do the photo radar thing, something i would like to see it do, but i guess a lot of it comes down the the areas, for me a valentine is the best choice because i have no photo radar in my area and the directional system with counter works best for me. Cops in my area like to hide in areas with radar sources around that would confuse other detectors and not to mention like to hide in the brush, so the arrows and counters work to my advantage. as for the in front thing this is also true no radar detector can help your there if your alone on the road, but that's why you speed smart lol
