Default need to find ground for amp

i have a 1996 mustang gt that i am installing a sub system in. everything seems to be ok, but when i turn up the volume in small incraments it eventually it doesnt hit right and the amp lights flicker. we have tried one ground spot thinking that is the issue, what other "better thought" ground spots would there be. or any insight to what the problem might be. and yes i know HO altinators and a capacitor are part of those options. however i dont think they are a need in this situation becasue of low power amp and subs. so be looking for your input.

Well, you just wrote a conflicting issue.

Which is it?

Is your amp pulling too much power?

Or is it a grounding issue?

Reading that, it sounds like a grounding issue. How many watts is the sub + amp? (RMS)

The best way to ground your amp is to etch away the paint on a hidden part of your cars frame, and then drill a bolt into it, grounding the amp to that bolt.

well we actually figured out the ground issue last night before bed time...however the speakers are still missing depite the amp now not flickering...so now i'm thinking its a power issue....in any case my amp is i believe 480 and my speakers are 50 to 250 RMS 1000 max... so i figure it would be fine...i have switched my amp from 2-1 to 4-2 ohm...but 4-2 seems to make it worse.. so we also tryed bridging one speaker disconnecting the other and seeing if it could do it with just one...but it still had the same problem....

system: sony xplode xm-1002hx and my two 10' subs are infinity Kappa 120.1se...

you need to use a volt meter to see what going on instead of guessing. If its a voltage issue where the amp is starving for power, you could damge it.
