Default Is a valentine Radar Detector worth it? Escort?

Hey do any of you guys got Valentine Detectors? Or the Escorts? Have they saved you? Are they worth spending $400? I used to have a 12band cobra and I mean it did do work for me but is spending that much money really a smart idea? I travel on the GSP in jersey 40 miles to work each day and have been getting into way to many close calls so I'm thinking about getting the Valentine.

Let me know if i should get one!

As many will tell you, there's no substitute to driving a little slower. But yes the valentine is an awesome detector, I got the brand new model and the HUD thing is too cool! I don't street race or anything(couple drags from a light ) but its nice to have one for mis-placed peace of mind haha.

I would recommend getting a lightly used valentine (1 or 2 models older) its saves you a ton of money and is relatively the same thing. (just less bells and whistles)...

But the escort never really caught my eye, for me, form is just as important as function (im never really even 10 over) and the heads up display with the val is what sold me- saw it and was like "COOL, must have it!" lol, saves me on the highway sometimes, but in city its just there to be a reminder of what a stupid ricer race will cost me...

Buy the Valentine - you'll never go back to a "omni-directional" detector again!

Bumping this thread. Another got me intrigued about radar detectors. I'm averaging about a ticket per year.

Is the Valentine the best of the best or something? Anything else worth looking into?

Valentine is super pricey and IMO worth it. There are competitors, like belltronics and escorts passport. BUT the valentine has these arrows that tell you where a cop is. And has false (or "bogey") detection, like if theres a speed trap and you are like "pshh, its just a fake, the valentine will either light up to tell you "No stupid, theres a cop hiding in that false signal area." This function has saved my sorry *** multiple times, as cops like to hide and tag people in those areas with k or ka bands...

Others will say, "but laser is instantaneous!!" And you will respond "only if the guy can get close enough to use it, and by then I'll be in the granny lane."

Not advocating speeding (in case anyone is dying to tell me that lol) but it helps with the speed traps and false hits, even with the multi-directional sensors to tell you if there are cops anywhere around you other than in front.

I say get it, itll pay itself off by year 2 if you really are averaging 1 speeding ticket a year, and your insurance is also biting you in the *** lol.

Alright, I'm seeing used ones going for $300 or so.

Where are people mounting these? I'm concerned about theft. Do you all remove them when parked outside?
