Ok,</P>

Here goes. My situation 95 gt with Mach 460</P>

I have mach 1000 4 amps with rack, 2 mach 1000 subs.</P>

I need a harness to plug in the amp lead from the 460 to the 1000 amp harness.</P>

Everyone I talk to says you need to rewire everything. I place was willing to sell me a harness only for like $250!</P>

So am I an idiot or should I just be able to tap into the line level feed off the rear 460 amp, run a power lead, ground and remote lead for the 1000 amps. It would be easy enough if I could decipher the Mach 1000 amp wires. </P>

Why does everyone think this is an impossible task? Line level feeds, and power worst case if the mach 1000 amps aren't crossed over add a crossover. Am I missing something here?</P>

Did you get those amps for free?
I hope so.

Factory amps are ok. But there is much better stuff out there, and when you consider that you're talking about using high level inputs... You're taking a "decent" signal, amplifying it through an "ok" amp, then taking that already partially distorted signal and running it through even more amps.

Here's what you do. Wait until this thread is about the 4th or 5th down on the list, and in another 5 hours post yet another thread. Or you could have some patience and wait a day or two for all of the forum junkies to come through and help you out.

My personal opinion is that you should scrap it all and start with stuff that's made to work the way you need it to. Get a good head unit with RCA outputs, get a decent crossover, get some decent amps with low-level inputs, and don't skimp on the wires.

I think my patience is just gone after dealing with so many electronic "experts" at install places and other audio supply places. I guess it came across in my post. I just saw my post and realized that you prolly thought I was talking about everyone on the forum. When I said no one has a clue I meant all of the shops and installers I have talked to over the last few days.I'm just Amazed at how simple a thing it is that I'm trying to do and how many people say it can't be done.</P>

you're talking about using high level inputs... You're taking a "decent" signal, amplifying it through an "ok" amp, then taking that already partially distorted signal and running it through even more amps.

Horatio, to clarify the set up youdescribe is not really whatwill happen. More accurately it would be:</P>

taking low levelinputs. You're taking a "decent" signal, amplifying it through2 "ok" amps for the Mach460,tapping the signal pre 460 Amps and running it through 4 amps to power the 2 Subs using a new dedicated power lead for the 4 Mach 1000 amps to handle the increased load.
</P>

I realize that the Mach 1000 isn't a great system by audiophile standards. I do like the idea of a factory type boost for the bass. Considering this is usually where most stock systems are the most anemic. In my last two cars I used the Infinity Basslink which is a nice simple bass supplement for everyday listeners. I used it as an add on to a stock system (landrover which is like the mach system in that no one wants to touch it). And the car before I did rewire the whole thing with RCA's, alpine amp, alpine+ Boston Acoustic speakers. I picked up the set up pretty cheap and for the money there is no decent aftermarket system even with a single sub I could have gotten. Could have gotten another basslink but thought I'd go with a Mustang specific app. FYI I am unwilling to put a box in my trunk, and even unwilling to get rid of the rear seat. So for me it was basslink or Mach 1000 upgrade. Oh and I'm considering converting the H/U to get a more "decent" signal (or I might...cringe... wire in a factory 6 disc changer.) </P> <edited><editID>ninjzx998</editID><editDate>37959.7358217593</editDate></edited>

OK gotcha.
It sounds like you're going to need to do some creative wiring. I don't think anybody has adapters to go from the 460 to the 1000, so you'll have to make them. There's just not enough demand out there for somebody to bother with tooling up a production line.

What would help is getting the factory service manual, but make sure it's got complete wiring diagrams. If you can't source one of those cheap enough then I'd think about going to the local stereo shop and buying one of the pre-made adapters to go from the stock wiring to an aftermarket deck. The reason I suggest this is because it'll have the pin-outs for the factory wiring at that end. So then what you do is take the deck and amp out, and start sending current through the wires one at a time while checking the amp side with a test light. When you've mapped out what goes where, then you've just got to figure out the same for the 1000, and I don't know how to help on that one.

BOOM,BOOM,BOOM, what, BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM, what was the question? Jeez, I wish they had mufflers on those jet engines I worked on in Nam, or had I worn the ear defenders, I wouldn't be deaf right now. What? Would you tell those damn cheeping birds to shut up? Huh. I know that was a honda that just went by, it sounded like multiple explosions, either that or we're under mortor fire. Why are you whispering when you damn well know I need the volume on the t.v. up to about 60?

Thanks for putting up with an old man guys, but I sure wish I would have protected my hearing when I was young. Those of you who have doubts, wait until you're my age. It is no fun at all.

heh
I now wear earplugs when I go out to live shows. I should at home too. I love to feel the music as well as just get nailed by a wall of sound.

but I'll be deaf when I'm old.

Flipside is that I won't have to listen to my old wife nagging me.

<IMG src=uploads/ninjzx998/CBAB1_IMG_2641.JPG border="0">I'm pretty good about not abusing my ears. I do love bass though. The system is going in a convertible as well so that will keep it from being too overpowering. Horatio that's a good idea about the lead testing. On the Mach 1000 sideI only have 10 pins to figure out. Lets see, 4 amps need </P>

2 low level inputs</P>

Funny when you google search and come up with your own thread!

As an update, Someone did the dirty work on wiring these amps and sourcing some connectors. Wish I had the time to do it. He's offering them on ebay for $70. rip off for what you get two plugs, 8 guage power and 8 guage ground cable... but I have put off installing these so long it was worth it to me. FYI email is blownmustang@sprintmail.com. If I remember I'll post on the instructions. But with the factory style plugs it should just be lead, ground and tapping for sound. hmmm don't recall anything but a constant lead???
