Default Need help choosing an amp

I need some help deciding what to do with these subwoofers. I plan on putting a single sub in the back, but first need to figure out what is going on with the subs in the doors (shaker 500) before I choose an amp.

To my understanding, the subs in the front doors are rms 60 W each with a 1.2 ohm impedance. The sub that I would like to put in the back has an rms of 300 W ( i would like to go a bit higher, maybe 400) and 4 ohm impedance.

What type of amp ( and how should it be set up) to give everything enough power? I was thinking that i may need to replace the door subs (i found some 200w each @ 4 ohm if needed)

I had the Shaker 500 system also. You will need to replace the door subs with either 4 or 2 ohm subs. You will not have a bunch of space inside the door. With out to much custom work I manage to fit the Pioneer Premier 8" shallow mount subwoofers in the doors. They are 120 rms each and I don't know what the max power is because that doesnt mean anything for the most part. I have a Kicker ZX300.1 amp bridged (bringing the amp to run at 2 ohms for more power with 4 ohm subs) to these door subs. If I recall the plastic box inside the door was cut and remade to fit the subwoofers. If not you will have to extend the subs out even further. To see mine check out the post in this forum "Boston acustics powered by kicker." Hope this helps. (Also I needed to dyna mat my doors afterwards because they rattled.)

I saw your tread a few days ago and i like what you did with the door panel subs. Maybe you can answer this question for me; can i split those two door panel subs off of one channel and use the other channel on the amp for the rear sub? I believe you said that you had 2 12s in the back, how did you amp everything up?

Never put subs in two different locations, and never mix sizes

If one were planning to put a single sub in a box in the trunk, should one put 8"mids in the stock 8" locations, or what?

If one were to cross then over as "Midbass" drivers, one might leave those in there as Midbass.

Yes, I am running three amps. I have a four channel amp for my components. A mono amp for my door subs which I have tuned for mid range. And a mono amp for my 13's in the back. And my extra sets of component tweets are ran off the deck.

You can you different size subs but you will need to have them ran on different amps so you may tune them properly. If you do the door subs you will not be able to run off the stock shaker amp. The amp for the door subs should not run you subs in the trunk either. You will most likely need two amps.

But to be honest the amount of sound for the cost will not be worth it. I would leave you stock door subs and just do the trunk ones unless you just have extra money to blow.

Not sure if this will work, but click link to see video of door subs in action.

OK, why would a pair of new door subs, like the Dayton shallow mounts for example, not run well off the stock amps? Not enough power, or what?

BTW, that's a cool video, but I'd be paranoid about somebody accidentally kicking the cone on the way into the car...
