Sorry, but this is not completely true.
If you are planning to keep Sync and use it with an adaptor, then yes you are correct. However, if you do not want to use Sync, you can cut the wire going there and connect it to the Maestro SW and use it with your new radio. Our dynamic guide shows how to do this.

How can I get in touch with you? PM me please.

Hey 12V Guy, sounds like you may know what I need. I have an 08 Shelby GT500 with the Shaker 500 system (NO audio controls on wheel) and looking to upgrade the head unit and wanting to swap to the 2010+ GT500 steering wheel with the radio controls. I'm not settled on the head unit, and I see in your sig you may represent Kenwood as well as Maestro.
I'd like to end up with most, if not all, the following capabilities:
- FM receiver
- Sirius/XM
- CD player
- back up camera
- bluetooth phone capability
- Ipod input
Do you have a recommendation?
TIA,
Joe

Hi Joe,

I only work for iDatalink. Since our product is compatible serially with their radios, and they are responsible for the advertising on the forums, I take care of all the questions related to using Kenwood products with Maestro interfaces. I'd just call Kenwood if you want to use their stuff. If you want to use our dash kit and have the climate in your radio, then you need to get a compatible radio which would be a 2013 Navigation model (DNX/DNN models only).

Best,

12V Guy

If you do this, PLEASE do a write up! I would love to have the controls on my Shelby. One of the only things I miss from my 2010 in my 07 GT500!!

Thanks 12V Guy, will settle on a receiver first.

WCGMan...sure will. I was actually floored that I bought the 08 without taking much time to inspect the audio part of it. I was love-struck by the powertrain I guess, lol. That stock unit is very very limited in it's functionality, and of course, no remote control of it.

Appreciate it. I think that there were some options for the headunit that added more functionality but they probably didnt sell well back then. At least they gave the non-nav units the option to swap out an aftermarket double din HU unlike most of the 10+ models with that integrated center stack. That was almost a deal breaker when I bought my '10 and the longer I had it, the more it pissed me off. That's part of why when the opportunity for the GT500 came along, I jumped on it. The first mod which was almost immediately made was a head unit swap. I really do miss those steering wheel controls my 10 had though.
