Sizes?
Going to post this in a separate thread to get it answered...
Thanks..
Your posts made me remember something I've wondered and I cant figure it out. Out, some listings of speakers will say 5x7/6x8 or more lengthy, 5x7 and 6x8 will fit too. Ok, if you have a 5x7 speaker and a 6x8 speaker, how are they the same and going to fit in the same hole? Thats an inch in each direction. Maybe I'm stupid but it sounds like a legit question to me....
Would have to have a difference, otherwise they wouldnt have a different name. IDK, doesnt make sense to me. A 6.5 is bigger than a 5.25 obviously, why isnt a 6x8 bigger than a 5x7? It should seem it would be like holding a 6x8 next to a 6x9, much larger.
I have never held the two speakers next to each other, but I did do my entire system in my mustang and I know the speakers in it are larger than the stock ones. I also would have been told if they had to cut out bigger holes, the only holes they said they cut were for the tweeters.
Now you have me wondering. I will have to go down to the shop I went to and ask them. They seem to love to answer questions.

The 5x7 have a 1/2" of extra trim than the 6x8. Manufacturers all term them different some companies call them 5x7 some call them 6x8 some call them 5x7/6x8 they both fit the same hole the hole is "made" for the 6x8 but someone started making 5x7 a while ago and some thought they should stay the same some thought they could do 5x7 and save money blah blah blah. They are different sizes but both will fir in our cars.
I was thinking that maybe they both have the same amount of that trim piece, but maybe the 6*8 has more of a backspace than the 5*7, so having a deeper curve. It would have the same front appearance, but a larger surface area becuase of the backspacing...
