Quick question... Have you ever disassembled the center console and taken the AUX IN port out of it for any reason? I'm curious to find out how big the hole is, or if it's even removable.
I've been brainstorming about putting flush mount USB / HDMI and AUX input ports in.
Backstory:
Originally came with a Shaker 500. Center console has the AUX IN port AUX / LINE IN
Years ago, I replaced the Shaker with a Pioneer AVIC Z110BT, resulting in a disconnect of the port, so now it's useless.
I recently updated to a Pioneer AVIC W8400NEX (installation manual)
I know have 4 useful connections.
1. USB port 1 (Apple Carplay) - To be plugged into external storage
2. USB port 2 (Android Auto) -To be plugged into my phone
3. AUX IN (Audio/Video) - Used whenever USB or HDMI is not an option
4. HDMI - If I ever feel the need to use it.
I have no interest in using the A/V input (not the same as the AUX input)
Adding USB ports is easy so this post really isn't about them.
I started searching for flush mount options for the USB ports and ultimately came across items like
Note: The AUX IN port on the Pioneer supports video (4 pole / conductor mini jack) so neither the HDMI / AUX INPUT, nor the Ford Knockout options linked above will work.
See Page 7/8 of the installation manual I linked to above.
where they basically spliced the stock AUX IN port and USB port originally used for SYNC, but now able to be used with any aftermarket headunit. I realize this may not support video, but its making my head spin.
Knowing that video may not work, have any of you tried splicing the aux port to be used with your aftermarket head unit?
If I end up not using the existing AUX IN port, I'm wondering if I can take it out and replace it with....this option...
Using the optional Pioneer mini jack. Notice it's 4 pole/conductors Pioneer CD-RM10
plus
Anyway, just brainstorming. What do you think?
