Default Crossover?

I read in another thread in here that 4 ways need a special crossover or something, but I have a set of 4ways hooked up to my Phoenix gold amp. Whats up with the 4 way thing and it not working or not working to its best or whatever?

alright here is what a 2 way speaker looks like its got a woofer and tweeter and it really dosnt need much of a xover to get them to sound right

here is a 3 way speaker its got an extra mid tweeter but no additional xovers

now here is a 2way component set and you notice the box thats the crossover

and here is a 3 way comp set and you see how much bigger the cross over is.

now think about your 4way set and does it have a cross over bigger than that? thats why they dont sound very good compared to a 2way. just remember more speakers dosnt always make it better.

Pioneer four-ways have very tiny passive crossovers, there's no practical way to defeat them unless you rewire each individual speaker in your 4way coax.

For sound quality... and more bass, the way to go is get a nice pair of components. If you're really lucky, you'll bi-amp them and throw some active crossovers in there.

if you look on the speaker terminals, you should find non-polar capacitors. They will filter out the low end so that the delicate tweets will not blow. Capacitors are a feature of passive crossovers. In this application, they are just located at the speaker - that's all.

Sure is a waste to have a real nice Phoenix Gold amp, with crappy 4-way coax's. Get some nice separates, with good crossover. You will hear the difference immediately.
