Easy stereo question
I have a Pioneer CD deck that's in need of replacement...button's broken etc. I want to install another unit (Sony) and I looked it up on Crutchfields website. They say that I can use an adapter to bypass the factory amp or an adapter to utilize the amp. The Sony unit has 17 watts rms per channel...which is the best way to hook it up? ...how many watts is the factory amp? The car came with a stereo/cassette that actually sounded pretty good but broke..that's why I put in the Pioneer. It is not a MACH 460. Thanks.
Thanks guys. I do think there is some sort of amp somewhere even though it isn't a mach 460 but it isn't as high in power as the aftermarket head units. I did email Crutchfield and got a response that it is better to bypass the factory amp for that reason.
hey i know sony aint the best but theyll last a while thats what im using rite now a 52wx4 but anyways go to the local for dealership and ask for a wiring diagram for the radio that will lead you in the rite direction because well for all we all know youc could be rite because i have a 91 lincoln that i guess was a first year car and it has one of the first 3 4.6 engiens in it but it needs a trans and the only trans i can use they only made in 91-92 i tried a newer 4.6 trans and blew it so i am tellin ya from personal experience to go get the diagram and go from there

I would hook it up to the factory provided amp. If it has an amp. Pretty much whatever the amp rating is will be better than the head units amp. It says 17 watts? I'm bettin it may push 10 or 12 then. Personally I think u should get a really cheap 4 channel amp and run 150 watts to the highs. Just don't blow them.
